Nyc's Hot97's Blatant racism towards asian tsunami victims

Imagine if a rock or country radio station did this?? WOWIEEE

The media coverage would have been endless. But of course, since this is a hip hop radio station with a black female host, the media completely ignores it

Stupid, people like that are just as bad as KKK if not worse.

This is even worst considering the main culprits are black which shows that racism is not only white versus minority issue

This would be expected from the KKK, everyone knows their views and stance on race.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON AIRING OF TSUNAMI PARODY SONG

HOT97 regrets the airing of material that made light of a serious and tragic event. We apologize to our listeners and anyone who was offended.

Both HOT97's program director and Miss Jones issued on-air apologies on Monday stating that the material was offensive and should not have been aired.

HOT97 takes pride in its community involvement and in the last few weeks has joined with broadcasters nationwide to raise money for victims of the Tsunami. Our relief effort will result in a substantial cash donation.

From here.

BTW, that announcement you quoted was not the original one posted. The original one stated that Miss Jones and her staff would be donating a weeks pay to the Tsunami fund. I guess she thought better of it and decided against it.

Just to give you guys a historical reference.

Actually the word chinamen is from the Chinese word "zhi na ren" meaning a weak and feeble man who kow tows (in chinese its ke tou, another english word derived from Chinese) in front of any opposition.

I assume China is actually derived from chinamen as there is nothing in the chinese language that means the country which remotely sounds like China.

The chinese word for China is Zhong Guo, or the middle kingdom.

As to the song, the reason asians are easily portrayed as such is because in the past (say the 80s), asians probably didn't have enough political clout to really do anything.

Also, many Asians, due to a history of being exploited by their government whether domestic or foreign imperialist, have adopted a mindset of "if I don't make trouble, it'll all blow over" sort of approach.

Thus even in the states, you'll see asian american citizens who have the right to vote but demonstrate no political activism.

uh get your facts straight. china comes from Qin, the guy who united all of china.

I have never heard this interpretation. Regardless, Chinamen does come from the word " zhi na ren".

i think a better theory is that chinamen comes from china + men.

then it would not be derogatory. There is a reason why it is derogatory.

It can still be derogertory even if it comes from china+men. The N worods comes from the latin word for the color black. Its origins were not derogertory. It later become derogertory like chinamen.

good point. another prime example of this is japs from japanese.

LOL. why does everyone take offense to everything? have you ever been outside? people make racist, derogatory, and hateful comments day in and day out. 99.9999% are just to get attention or just meaningless remarks to their friends. all you have to do nowadays is go on the air and say offensive things and you'll attract attention and land a $50mil contract with sirius radio. but it's YOU GUYS who have yet to experience the world today who are feeding the fire. nobody is making you listen. GET OVER IT!

Yes, people make racist comments all the time, but that is usually in private, to their friends, or to just few people. This was broadcast so that millions of people could hear it, that's just wrong. But it's more about the insensitivity to the Tsunami disaster, people are still over there suffering and Miss Jones are making fun of them. Like someone said before, it's been over 3 years since 9/11 and it's still wrong to make jokes about it.

Yeah, they changed it, that's really lame. :disgust:

Wtf? I didn't even know about this station until today (I'm in Nj). Making fun of 230,000 dead ppl? what a dumb and ignorant b1tch. And these idiots often claim they're victims of racism, go figure.

btw: Miss Info (the asian cohost) should quit this job. How can she stay in that sh1tty place?

i didnt check the entire thread, but i wrote an email to sprint and they responded with this:

STATEMENT FROM SPRINT

* Sprint does NOT have any connection to the Tsunami Song aired on Hot 97 FM.

* Sprint strongly objects to any communication or other effort making light of the devastation of the tsunami disaster. The content of the "Tsunami song" clearly runs contrary to Sprint's commitment to diversity and inclusion, and is not in any way supported or condoned by Sprint. Needless to say, our hearts go out to the tsunami victims and their families -- for this and other reasons, the Sprint Foundation and our associates have worked together since the tsunami tragedy to raise funds for disaster relief efforts and will continue to do so.

*Sprint has purchased advertising time on Hot 97 but was incorrectly identified as a sponsor of the segment of the show in which the song was referenced. In any case, Sprint was unaware and had no connection to the content of the "Tsunami Song."

*Sprint has expressed our strong concern about this content to the radio station. The station has issued a public apology and appears to have disciplined the responsible parties. Sprint continually evaluates acceptable content against our own guidelines and we will continue to monitor the process with all outlets in which we advertise.

i just read the rewritten statement given by hot97. i can't believe they would not fulfill their previous statement concerning the donation of a weeks pay. i really hope they're repremanded more than this......

i'm going to call them in the morning and curse them the fvck out!

Let's make a lynching pardoy song

Let's not, as respectful Asians, stoop down to these ignorant fvxkheads. We don't need to be Asian versions of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Turn the other way and ignore them. Remember they do not represent the whole. We know inside we are better than them (idiots at Hot97) by not responding to such idiocy. Just boycott the station.

Here is tip since your so respectful find some damn asian rappers to listen to. I don't even like what the girl did, but I'll be damn if I'm going to listen to bunch damn foreigners talk a bunch of sh!t. Your people have some book smarts, but ain't much else beyond that. Damn toad 😛

Here is tip, keep your ignorant statements to yourself.
Yup, I agree, it's offensive to Asians. You don't hear us saying "here's your bucket of PopEye's w/ some watermelon", do you? :disgust:

How can you find a woman with a mouth like that attractive? I wouldn't be able to put up a minute with someone like that even if they were gorgeous and she is NOT good looking IMO.

First of all no one defended what they did. It was a joke that was really ignorant. But a joke none the less. I find what they did no different then what President Bush did at the Republican National Convention, when him and several of his aids made a skit making a joke of looking for WMDs. It was a tasteless joke because thousands are dying over that. Poor judgement in both situations.

2nd just because a couple of blacks do something wrong is no need to say all black people and start with suggesting making lynch songs.

3rd the person who started this thread was outraged over what the blacks done, but yet showed not one drop of outrage over the suggestion of retaliating by making lynch songs. He then starts with naming people who had nothing to do with this just because they are black.

4th If you have such a problem with a black radio station, find another one. I am sure you can many non-black rappers out there.

And 5th I don't like watermelon 🙂

And 6th Just make sure my Shrimp Fried Rice is done properly 😛

you really aren't helping. Actually the person who responded to the lynch song pretty much said what you said that they don't represent the whole.

He also refered to those that made the comment and not the african race as a whole and expressly made it a point that it not be confused.

You on the other hand try to fuel the fire by calling us foreign.

Whats ironic is that while I was not born in this country, I have a much better command of the vernacular than you do.
