Hey guys, just trying to get some ideas on what things I must do in NYC. I'll be there next week for four full days. I know it's not enough time but trying to narrow down ideas I've come up with given timing. I'll be staying in Brooklyn with a friend.

Any ideas would be highly appreciated! :beercheers:

Lol!

Well I like walking around so I'm gonna dedicate a day to biking or walking Central Park. Broadway shows would be nice but I feel I can spend it better somewhere else.

Is the statue of liberty worth it? Heard it was just too crowded to try to get over there. Wonder if you can still go up.

Pastrami Queen is right there. The bread is still terrible (must be a NY thing), but that pastrami...

I would just do a boat tour that passes by it. You can go in now but I didn't bother.

Smorgsburg is good if you're there on a Saturday, nice view of the city.

Otherwise it depends if you're looking for touristy things to do or if you're after food drink recommendations.

Staten Island Ferry is free and cruises right past the Statue of Liberty - grab a beer on the boat

Go to a Broadway show and buy a half price ticket from the booth in Time Square - its worth the time spent

Buy some candied nuts from one of the vendors lining the streets

Check out whats hot from the street food vendors

A trip to Milk Bar for sweets

We loved the American Indian museum which is right by Wall St

9/11 Memorial of course

Drink on top of one of the many roof top bars one evening

Lots of things to do in Central park

Eat a Nathans dog at Coney Island and take in the Sideshow

Gray's Papaya or Papaya King

Stroll through China Town - stop by Xi'an Famous Foods for some spicy lamb noodles

Russ & Daughters for some fish

If you like watching comedians there are some great comedy clubs to checkout with the added bonus of big name comedians that randomly stop by to try out new material

I would say no these days unless you can get tickets to go inside/up which are sold out pretty far in advance. Just getting through the line for boarding/security can take a long time.

Lower Manhattan has a fair amount of stuff to see these days though. Wander through the battery, go see the Museum of American Indian (as Dr. Detroit mentioned), walk up and go into Trinity Church and the cemetery there (many figures from the revolutionary era buried here including Hamilton), head over to the WTC complex and check out the new transit hall/mall, go see the 9/11 memorial which was really well done, etc. Not sure what getting tickets to the 9/11 museum entails since I haven't had time on recent trips to check it out.

I lean more towards things to do and not necessarily food. Doesn't necessarily mean I won't try a place that's been recommended though. It's a bit complicated with such a short amount of time!

Museum of Natural History, then see Central Park while your at it. Finally stop by the Met since it's on the other side of the park.
Walk the Brooklyn Bridge and head to do the elevator to the top of the Freedom Tower. See the Occulus and 9\11 memorial while you are at it.
Intrepid.
The Cloisters.
At some point, walk the High line.

IF SOMEONE WALKS UP TO YOU WITH A CD...DO NOT TAKE IT. DO NOT MAKE EYE CONTACT. SAY NO THANKS AND WALK AWAY.

The woman on the street with her kid is not homeless. She is working for professionals.
No...the guy is not a vet. No the other guy doesn't need 5 more dollars to pay for his train ticket.
If someone walks up to you ans say

I went to Liberty Island when I was a kid and we didn't bother going up in the SoL then.... There was a wait, plus the time involved in going up... We just visited the gift shop and took pictures from below. What makes it so amazing is the scale when you get close and realize how large it actually is. Of course, you can do the camera thing with Google Maps and see the perspective that way....it's just not the same as experiencing it in real life.

Check out MoMA...it's kinda cool.

Times Square...Little Italy...

Too many restaurants to choose from, but definitely get a bagel if you need a quick breakfast. I always feel like NYC and Jersey have the best bread in the country.

Bagels yes, there is no superior bagel to NYC. A lot of west coast bread is however phenomenal.

I never plan anything when I go to Chicago or NYC. I just walk down the streets and everything just comes to you. I like Chicago a lot more than NYC, but big cities are amazing like that.

Time Square should probably be skipped. Avoid 42nd street between 9th and Broadway
Avoid 8th avenue between 25th and probably 48th

If you get a chance, stroll through Grand Central station.
Avoid cabs
Avoid buses.
Walk as much as possible or take the (express) subways. if you walking will take to long.
Avoid the local subways if you can.

There is plenty of good eating in Brooklyn.

Really thought this thread was about NY Strip recommendations. I was gonna say: ribeye and if you can't swing that, 127F through with a nice charred crust.

Water bottle to collect some sweet Liberal tears...
With a grand total of 0 significant bills passed in 7 months, the liberals have nothing to cry about (unless they didn't want Obama's agenda to continue).
