Instead he's threatening pulling funding from schools that want to mask, and put in an exec order saying schools can't mandate masking. I'll be moving up north to a sane state in the next few years, we have a home realty business to wrap up and a kid in school (and it's a good school, which do exist even here in Florida!). I'll pay more in taxes and/or expenses but it'll be worth it to me. One of the few things I enjoy down here anymore is fishing the intracoastals and they are now so polluted I don't bother.

No big business is going to turn off their surveys for NYC only.

As of last week, NYC was showing 71% vaxxed, "at least one dose" meaning full vax is probably around 65%. While that is certainly above the national average (~52%), considering NYC population density and its history with COVID, it kind of sucks. The CA suburban county I live in is ~80% vaxxed.

Several places in my neighborhood were already requiring proof of vaccination to sit inside before this and they seemed to handle it just fine - no problems as far as I could see.

I think this is a great idea. You'll never reach the hard core anti-vaxxers but surveys have shown a significant percentage of people don't plan on getting it but would if it were required by work or to do something they wanted to do.

I did talk to those workers about it when I first encountered it, actually! I was pleasantly surprised they were doing it and wanted to know how it was going. At least at that point there had been zero problems. I suspect this was helped by the fact that they could offer outdoor seating to those who weren't vaccinated but I think that was more due to the fact that most customers didn't know going in that they would need to show proof of vaccination.

This is really not a difficult thing to implement and really we should all be about finding the biggest sticks possible to whack the vaccine hesitant with right now. Make it so they can't go anywhere but the grocery store and back home.

They probably think the death rates seem low, they are not that old, so why bother with the hassle. I also read that this group tends to be apolitical and not bother to vote either. Look at Seoul and Tokyo. Both denser than NYC and are huge travel vectors. And, well, look at South Dakota, which is neither.

Regardless, I am not at all surprised that NYC is not at the forefront of vaccination because it has very large communities of the populations that are particularly reluctant to be vaccinated. Really, given its demographics its doing quite well and I'm not sure what more it could be doing. I mean the city literally has people going door to door signing people up for vaccinations, it has tents all over the city staffed all day willing to give people a shot at a moment's notice, etc. Because I was vaccinated in CA the city didn't have a record of me getting a shot and I got a personal call asking if I had and/or if I would sign up for one.

I've never been to Houston but not because I have anything against it, I just can't think of any reason I would want to travel to Houston. It's weird that it's such a large city but is so completely forgettable.
