i was wondering about the NYC taxi fares since the starting price is now $2.50 and .40 per increment, are the fares to JFK and LaGuardia the same....$35 and $20 respectively + tolls..

anyone taken a taxi to/from the airports since the fare hike?

What I meant is I was always on the meter to/from LGA. With tolls it's usually around $20-23 from either my apartment (UES) or office (Midtown West).

You can always take a shuttle bus from Grand Central for $10.

Aren't they opening up the train system to the airports soon ? One of the best ideas ever.

You're talking about a city where riding 5 blocks could cost $10.

Fare hikes are a bitch, but I guess they needed them to keep up w. inflation and such. I'm sure LGA will be another $6-$8.

LGA is actually pretty easy to get to by public transport. Take a subway up to 125 (real quick on the 4-5 express line for the east siders) then hope on the bus (M60, I think) that goes straight to the airport. Will take you probably less time than a tax and costs a total of $2.

May be a pain, though, if you have a ton of baggage.

For me, the local private car service costs about $25.00 to LGA :D

I hope you are kidding, I was expecting it to be more expensive. This is NYC we are talking about.

I took a cab from midtown to JFK the other day for 25 bucks plus a 5 dollar tip. The cabbie wanted to go all the way to the TriBoro bridge even though we were right next to the 59th street bridge. The TriBoro is 4 dollars each way and the 59th street is free. The tolls alone would have tacked on $8 to the cost. He was telling me that the TriBoro was the move b/c of traffic which was total BS. I guess you can choose between the flat fee of $45 and letting the meter run now.
