All those police are not there to protect the guy being put in the ambulance, regardless of who he is, if he is a criinal, murderer, etc or not. The majority of them, where there to protect the general public, the very people you are believing are not being protected. They are protecting them from themselves, to prevent them from reacting on emotions and becoming criminals thru their own actions. Street justice would make them criminals, murders, and destroy their lives, and in the end, nobody wins, not the "murderer", and not the general public, specially those reacting on emotion (anger). There is a reason we have a due process system in this country. If people where allowed to react on emotions in situations like this, which tends to disregard facts, we would have a lot of innocent dead people all over this country. Because what a person believes happened, may not be what actually happened.

But thank you for demonstrating how bias, emotions, anger, and hate can warp a person's understanding the actions of police and other people, and prevents them from having a clear picture of the events.

I was simply replying to the comment that 'we have a framework to deal with criminality'.

It doesn't appear that framework worked out for the lady found in the sleeping bag. At what point does this framework keep someone with his criminal history behind bars so they don't kill anyone?

This another fine example of NYC's justice system in action. We can add it to the growing list of released criminals who keep on committing crimes after they are released. But at least people of color are getting justice.....oh wait...

So to be clear what is your preferred solution? Is it to imprison people like this guy indefinitely pending trial?

If so I hope you’re ready to pay much, much higher taxes to fund this infrastructure.

You're absolutely right. Every crime should be life in prison or execution no matter what. Murder, assault, rape, theft, jaywalking, public urination, drug possession. All crimes should require mandatory life sentences for all offenders and permanent incarceration before trial of course as well. What a wonderful idea!

I wonder how the ‘imprison people indefinitely without conviction’ people would feel if they were accused of a crime.

Please detail his 21 offenses. How many were felonies? How many were misdemeanors? What kind of crimes were they? Over what period?

I didn't actually slam your reply or even mention a victim’s family. Your post was pretty open ended and you didn't explain what you were talking about until I said “…and?”

I didn't intend it to come out as confrontational.

I shop in Howard Beach obviously.. but I am worried that that's how it usually starts.. with a few stores.

The store I go to, was previously CTown, then PathMark, then Stop and Shop. Sure another store chain will come in but everytime that happens.. the prices go up.
 
Stop n Shop is just ok around here. Shoprite, also just ok.

I use small local walkable joints mixed in with Whole Foods and a bit of Shop Rite. HMart sometimes too. I really want a Sprout to open up nearby.
