After Assemblyman Katz’s Arrest, Putnam Democratic Chairman Calls on Katz to Resign


New York State Assemblyman Steve Katz (Republican/Conservative) was arrested yesterday morning for unlawful possession of marijuana after he was caught speeding on the New York State Thruway, while driving to Albany to attend an Assembly session. Katz was stopped for speeding, and a New York State Trooper smelled marijuana in Assemblyman Katz’s car.


Assemblyman Katz surrendered a bag of marijuana to the Trooper.


Putnam County Democratic Chairman Victor Grossman called on Assemblyman Katz to resign, since Katz’s’ alleged marijuana use before an Assembly session reflects on his fitness to serve as Assemblyman:


“Reasonable people may disagree about legalizing marijuana, but Assemblyman Katz is accused of smoking marijuana while on his way to attend a session of the New York State Assembly. This is not simple recreational marijuana use. This is where our laws are made. It appears that Assemblyman Katz intended to attend the Assembly session and vote on legislation while under the influence.


One must wonder where he purchased the marijuana as that is a separate crime in New York. He clearly has contempt for the laws he has sworn to uphold. He is unfit to hold office.”


“Katz’s drug arrest for smoking marijuana at 10 in the morning also reveals breathtaking hypocrisy, since Assemblyman Katz is a member of the New York State Assembly Committee on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse.


More importantly, in 2012, Assemblyman Katz voted against legalizing medical marijuana for New Yorkers suffering from diseases like glaucoma and cancer.


It’s incredible that Assemblyman Katz thinks the law does not apply to him and believes that this kind of behavior truly represents the people of the 94th District.”

Wait a minute, I thought smoking MJ didn't affect one's ability to drive.

Hopefully the judge makes an example of this idiot.
 
I hope he doesn't resign since that would piss off all the little Democrat ass wipes. I just hope he doesn't run again.

I'm sure lots of his colleagues are just happy what he was smoking wasn't attached to another man, but damn, chalk up another face plant for the social authoritarians.

This gets my herpa derp award for the week. He was speeding, not weaving in and out of lanes about to cause a catastrophic wreck. When will you people stop commenting on shit you know absolutely nothing about?

And when I say "you people" I mean the morons in here who continually try to push their marijuana policy on other people whilst having never smoked, ingested, or otherwise used it at all. And the fact you haven't done this is clearly evident by the amount of ignorance in your posts regarding the subject. And I am not pointing solely at you by any means, as there are a few other people in this thread commenting on this topic who clearly have no clue.

I have used it on plenty of occasions, drove on it more than most people have driven sober, and never once had an accident while high/stoned. I went to one of the best colleges in the country and live a productive and happy life. I don't need stuffy douchebags telling me how to live my life and what is and isn't good for me.

The irony of this arrest is both sad and poignant.

Too bad people like this state Senator do things that look bad for the pro-MJ crowd. I've witnessed accidents that involved drivers that were stoned (no alcohol), several of these accidents cost the lives of others involved.

I don't support driving by anyone that's under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or distracted by technical devices.
 
Republicans are simple to understand. The more they claim and campaign against something, the more they partake in it and want to keep it only for themselves.
 
I believe he should resign, if he is convicted, due to now being a felon. I hold this stance for all politicians. Dems, though, have proven that convicted felons should be elected into office, though (yes, I am referencing Washington DC).

If dems say this guy should resign due to having committed a crime, they need to expand their list of those who should resign. If it is due to hypocrisy and/or lies, they need to GREATLY expand their list to roughly 600 people in Congress and both the Pres and VP.
 
One thing is true, the democrat party never really claimed to be honest, moral, trustworthy, etc. When they prove themselves to not be honest, moral, trustworthy, etc., they are not being hypocritical about it at least.
