For those of you who need to have the latest / greatest cell phones and aren't happy with the free ones that most companies give out, it looks like Let's Talk.com has the Motorola v70 and the SonyEriccson T68 (locked) for $199 after rebates.

Clickit!

The T68 is available when you select VoiceStream as the carrier.
The V70 is available when you select Cingular (NYC).

Currently the zip is set to my area in NJ, but see what's available for you.

Not too many places have the V70 yet, and T68's are still expensive, even when locked.

i have never owned a cell phone, but since so many people seem to have them and everyone asks for your 'cell number', i think i might have to take the plunge...

i really like that v70 phone, but i live in CT (about 50 minutes outside of NYC) and no place around me has it. would i be able to go into the city one day, buy the phone there and bring it back to my local cingular store for activation?

lemme know wut i need to get this phone ;)

thanks.

Cingular's "metro" calling area includes only a small part of CT. I tried for New Canaan (06840) and it said the phone was unavailable, even though the map shows NC is covered.

MAP

If you want to get it, you could probably get it with a NY number and use it till your contract was up and then Cingular in your area should be able to take it over. Don't quote me on that though.

In NYC Chinatown Cell Phone stores you can get an unlocked SonyEricsson T68i for $200 w/o Sales Tax when you commit to a 1 Year VSTR contract.
It can be done for the V70 too i think.
Read my old posts in another thread for more details (sorry I forgot which thread I posted)

Hummercash I think what you can do is activate at VSTR (Voicestream) in NYC. For the first 6 months of your contract period, you'll need to stick to a 646/917 area code number. After 6 months you can change to 203 area code numbers (or anything else in CT). Your outgoing calls to CT will be included in your monthly contract free minutes since CT is within the Northeast roaming area of VSTR. The only downside is your friends will have to call a NYC number for the first 6 months.

One of the rebate says you will have to donate $20 to Special Olympics in order to qualify for it. Sales tax also adds another $15~20 to it if they charge it. So, it's about $240 after rebate.
