OK, according to TV guide, tonight's Knicks/Wizards game is showing on both MSG and TBS here in NY. (I'm actually kinda surprised it's not on national TV). Anyways, I don't get MSG where I live (stupid Cablevision would charge me $14/mo. for it). I know there's some rules tho' regarding blackouts of games so that two stations can't show the same game at the same time. Is it likely that I'll be able to watch the game on TBS tonight, or will they prob. black it out since it's on MSG?

Well it's national in terms of a station that's seen throughout the US, but it's on cable. I think the term for channels like CBS, NBC etc. is "national TV."

Instead of showing new programming tho', stations will just black out the screen for the length of the game with a note at the bottom saying why.

As big as Jordan's return is, it's not enough to warrant a Tuesday night primetime slot on NBC. I would imagine that NBC is trying hard to get one on the weekend asap.

Now, had it been Jordan and Phil and Scottie and the Bulls re-uniting, that might have been different. But to see Jordan's team start their abissmal, under .500 season, is probably not something NBC thinks would score every high.

Personally, I'm looking forward more to seeing the new defenses and how they are going to work out. I hope a couple teams tonight go ahead and expierment with some different stuff.

From TVGUIDE.COM...

NBA Basketball
Wizards at Knicks
150 min.

The 38-year-old Michael Jordan might not sky above the rim much like he did during his glory days with the Bulls, but his return to the game as a Washington Wizard will get plenty of ?air? time. Jordan could appear on national TV 26 times this season, beginning with tonight's opener in New York against the Knicks. (Live)
?It's sensational,? says Marv Albert of Jordan's second comeback. ?His return adds another dimension. It will be very intriguing to watch Jordan against the young stars? who emerged in his absence, especially Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson.

It'd be wise to catch Jordan while you can, though, because he might not be playing once the playoffs start in April, much less when the NBA Finals roll around in June. The Wizards, who won only 19 games last season, aren't anywhere near as good as the unbeata-Bulls Jordan once championed. ?They'll be a very serious playoff contender,? says Albert of Washington, ?but on the bottom rung. Don't expect a miracle.?

While Jordan will be the center of attention, the L.A. Lakers still hold court. The champs, coached by Jordan's ex-mentor Phil Jackson, begin their quest for a three-peat tonight in the doubleheader nightcap against visiting Portland.

Well, TVGuide will list both of 'em as showing, but that doesn't mean it'll actually show on TBS.

Man, I feel for you buddy...I hope you get to see it. I personally don't care for Jordan, but I hope you get to see it since you appear to like him.

Track down a friend that has MSG or head out to a bar? I'm sure every bar in town will be showing it.

EDIT: Every bar in town, at least on a small tv. I forgot the World Series was on...What a night in New York.

Yep, you'll be blacked out. :(

On a totally unrelated note, I got tickets to the December 22nd game against the Wizards.

Will it really be blacked out?

I remember watching basketball and baseball games simultaneously on different channels but I always switched back to MSG because they were pro-Knicks vs TBS which wasn't.

AFIAK, the only time Knicks games are simultaneously on TBS/TNT and MSG are when the Knicks aren't the home team.
