Cuomo will get what he wants. They always do. We're screwed for "the greater good" which is really whatever he says it is.

lol American gun politics. A huge majority of gun crimes involve pistols, therefore we should ban rifles.

Well, I guess he's not looking to run for president in 2016 after all.

He is and will do whatever it takes. Perhaps a comparison to Satan is unfair, since it makes the latter look bad, but when Elliott Spitzer, who had a long working relationship with Cuomo thinks he's morally and ethically unfit for office that says something. My profession was the target of a Cuomo manufactured hit for Spitzers gain when the latter was Gov here. It was an act of political enormity, but the ends justify the means. He's the only prospect for President that worries me. "16 year olds in Vermont" is nothing compared to Cuomo.

A huge number of crimes are from repeat offenders, so lets let more people out of jail.
:D

The states should expand the house arrest program.
Cost of keeping guy in jail = really high.
Cost of him living on grandma's couch = not very high (for tax payers). Just make sure he can't leave the house.

How about we start executing people with more then 3 felonies?

Lets look at crime as a disease, a disease that should be purged from society.

Depends on the crime. Isn't smoking a joint a felony in the US? They can be let go or put on house arrest (which is ironic because stoners chill on the couch all day anyway). Stealing a car --> death penalty.

There isnt much logic in the gun grabbers platform that makes sense.

Exhibit A:

“This is a singular moment in the history of the gun control movement,” said Richard M. Aborn, the president of the Citizens Crime Commission of New York City. “The governor has the opportunity to set the high-water mark and continue New York’s leadership position in having the most effective gun control laws in the country.”

But yet in the previous sentence, Exhibit B:

...including the measure to outlaw assault weapons. But many high-powered rifles now in production are exempt from the ban because, advocacy groups say, manufacturers have altered their products to circumvent the law.

This is why when someone in the other thread told me that "smarter people" than me were working on gun control, I had a hard time breathing because I was laughing so hard at their ignorance.

See my above post. How many times have you seen someone rob a 7-11 with a 0.50 cal rifle?

The move itself is fairly predictable, but what's more interesting to me is the potential political implications. Cuomo has had very high approval ratings in NYS, even among Republicans, and has been talked about as a possible contender for the Dem nod in 2016. This may be the first move he's made that would increase his political polarization, and possibly negatively impact his national chances.

Cuomo is popular in NYC which controls Albany which controls the state. Why would he not be popular? He has a magical last name and fought medicaid fraud. Oh that last bit. He outsourced temps as inspectors who were supplied with helpful tips, like where there are conflicting regs, and BTW, regulations mean what the inspectors say they mean. For example prescriptions have the date of the order. Oral orders have it recorded by tyke pharmacist. For this witch hunt however the interpretation required hour and minute. Millions in fines were pocketed for that alone and Spitzer through Cuomo got credit for catching evil pharmacies and getting triple fines for services rendered in good faith. It was nicely done.

Last I saw he had an approval rating of nearly 70% among Republicans. That's nothing to sneeze at.

No it's not and it's worrisome. I had a chance to see the man behind the curtain. What republican wouldn't love someone who stood against abuse of government programs like medicaid and made the perps pay ?

Mr. Cuomo, a Democrat, will outline his proposal in his State of the State address, but even before he speaks, he has incited anxiety among gun owners by acknowledging in a radio interview that “confiscation could be an option” for assault weapons owned by New Yorkers. Since that interview, Mr. Cuomo has not mentioned the idea, and his aides have acknowledged that it would be impractical.

Good job thinking everything through instead of just running your mouth on the radio nutbag.

Just last week in my neighborhood on the LES, a 16 year old was shot and killed by a 12 year old. I wonder where he got the gun.

He got it illegally. He should be punished to the maximum that the law allows.

Society needs to look at why a 16 year old felt he needed to kill a 12 year old.

What kind of home was the child raised in? Are the parents outstanding members of society, or were they in and out of jail.

Punishing the shooter does not fix the root cause of the issue.

I got it wrong. A 12 year old shot and killed the 16 year old. Damn my dyslexia.

Only if the po-po think you have enough to distribute... which varies from state to state. If you are caught with a joint and nothing else you will get a ticket in most states.
