NY cabbie returns $21,000 found in cab

Good for him. I probably would have taken it though. TBH, if someone's carrying around $21k in cash, it's either all they have or they're doing something unsaintly with it. If it's the former, they kind of deserve to lose it for being such a dumbass.

The news enjoys making you think that good things aren't commonplace... they thrive on sensationalism and alarmism, so of course it's huge news when a fireman rescues a kitten from the Al-Qaeda tree.

Edit: Sorry, it's not news. It's "Entertainment News".

No such thing as journalism anymore.

Not really that special being that a NY cab medallion goes for 800k now. So if they got caught, keeping anything not theirs, probable a good chance they lose it.

I would take it and invest it ASAP.

That's actually not a bad idea, invest it for a couple months THEN give it back. You still made yourself a few hundred bucks if more, depending on how well you invested it. 😀

I would probably just give it back too, I would feel too bad keeping it as much as it would be tempting...

So you'd probably do the wrong thing. Whatever makes you feel good man.

Good for him for doing the right thing.

What an idiot. Shows why cab drivers aren't actuaries. Any smart person would have compared the risk of getting caught with the reward of keeping the money and realized that if he just hid the cash in his neighbor's backyard for a few years, he would have been able to get away without anyone suspecting him.

Uh, did you guys even read the article? He did it because his religion dictated it.

Doing the "right" thing is arguably pointless if there was no free will in the action. The ends justify the means right?

NY cabs are actually a decent place to lose things. Plainslothes inspectors are routinely sent out to 'accidentally' leave something in a cab, and if it isn't returned the cabbie loses his medallion - which costs a LOT to get in the first place.

If someone left $21,000 in your cab, wouldn't you assume you were being set up? Fuck that.

No, if someone asks, I'll say another passenger probably found it and took it.

What if it was 5 dollars or 50 cents? If some one dropped 50 cents in my cab, I would go through hell and back to make sure they get their 50 cents back. I would even interupt their job interview or meeting to get it back to them.
