NXE leaked available now

Installing the pirated NXE might also get your 360 banned. Big reason NOT to do do it right there.

If you're such a nerd that you need to have NXE 3 weeks before everyone else then you deserve to be banned from Xbox live. Actually you deserve to be banned from the internet.

AFAIK, you can't even create an avatar yet. the only thing you would get out of this is the installing to the HD.

asshole alert

I think it's pretty stupid if someone can't wait 3 weeks for the NXE, but I'm not so cliche as you are to come into a gaming forum and call people nerds. And even if someone was excited enough to get the NXE early, I'm not sure that qualifies them as a nerd, nor does it qualify them for being banned from Live or the internet. It also does not qualify you to judge said person. I'm sure you have something in life that you'd get excited over that everyone else would find stupid.

You, sir, annoy the piss out of me. So, STFU.

Had a spare box, so I unplugged the ethernet cable from the back and gave it a go. It looks pretty slick, but that's about all I can tell without a network connection.

Actually from what I've read about 90% or more thats installing this already have banned consoles.

How the hell would anyone know that, since once you install you can't connect to live at all whatsoever, even to get a banned message?

I meant banned systems from mods not this. So they don't have anything to lose.

Ok, I don't have a 360, and I'm not really sure what NXE is, but I'm guessing that it's some kind of interface upgrade that will be downloadable and free.

I think it's kind of silly to install something that's not even the final version, and will be available shortly. OTOH, a lot of people got in on the Vista beta test, so obviously there's a lot of people who like to do this sort of thing.

So my question is, why's MS got its knickers all bunched up over something that's going to be released for free in two weeks?

Is this pirated version going to somehow cause servers to crash? Or screw up beta testing? Some kind of unfair advantage in online games? Cause RRoD's because the leaked version is buggy?

If not, to me it just sounds like MS is acting like a petulant schoolboy bully. Especially with the permaban threat.

I'm not sure Microsoft has even commented on this pirated update, let alone threatened permabans. The rumor is that there's a chance your console will be banned, but I don't think there's been any conclusive evidence this has happened. Plus, you can't even get online with the pirated update, so that's another reason for Microsoft to just ignore this.

Sorry, I think I misread something in another article. I did find this information though:

The Joystiq article had a link to Major Nelson's comment:

A little reminder: If you get your hands on NXE and you are NOT in the Preview Program. You won't be allowed on LIVE.

Clicking through a few links led to this: Major Nelson is the Xbox Live gamertag of Larry Hryb. I work at Microsoft under the title of ?Xbox Live Director of Programming? in the Xbox Live product group

I don't if that's true or not, or if whatever Larry says is law at Xbox Live, but if he is, it sounds like a way of Microsoft commenting without being "official" about it. He has a standard disclaimer on his site, but that doesn't really mean much if he really is the Director of Programming.

You could really interpret that statement a couple of ways - I mean, "you won't be allowed on Live" could mean "you won't be allowed on Live [ever again]". Or it could be "[for now]". We'll see.
