You're not alone. Even people with SLI rigs have had to set everything fairly low to get decent performance. I guess it all depends on what the individual considers acceptable. Some people may consider 20fps in this game to be smooth, while others may need at least 35-40 to be comfortable.

The last handful of hot games I got were from Target.
I just picked up Dawn of War: Dark Crusade a few days ago. EB and Circuit City and Best Buy were all sold out and not expecting another shipment for weeks.
Was walking around Target looking for pajamas and I saw about 20 boxes in the computer section.
Target > EB, BB, CC.

Without AA, though, I'd think that anything 1280x1024 and below would look horrid. It's clear that the engine is very poorly coded - I doubt that any amount of patching is going to make it run well.

Should work under Win2k, at least, I would think it would.
I had to visit 3 Best Buys, Walmart, Circuit City, and finally found it at a Gamestop in a strip mall.Funny part was, at each of the BBs, there was someone calling the store asking about NWN2 as I was working with a sales rep to find the title.

Fat chance. Congress - that's the opposite of progress, right?
Oh, and I've checked at (4) area Best Buys - none in stock. They've got the strategy guide though! Two CompUSAs and a Target also with none in stock. :frown:
Step 1. Try the Update Button
Step 2. Download Critical Rebuild Program
If the update process in Step 1 did not work correctly, you can download and install the Critical Rebuild Program.
Note: This problem includes all critical files, not just patch files, so it should only be used if the update process in step 1 does not work.
This file will be available shortly ? Please check back.
fix the link? ... the Devs never bother to even create it with an installerOriginally posted by: Bateluer
Apppin, the Devs have stated that patches will be coming on a monthly basis. The DM Client was promised in a patch at the game's release, which they delivered with the 1.01 patch. Next patch would come in early Dec.
I do wish they would actually fix the link to the manual patch download on the NWN2 page. At present, it simply takes you to an empty directory listing with a text file saying that NWN2 patches will reside here.
Edit - There are a lot of idiots on the NWN2 forums though, spouting about how WoW does this and that and NWN2 should implement features in the same way. Fortunately, there are plenty of people, including myself, that beat them silly for spouting such idiocy.![]()
John Galloway, a Senior Producer with Atari, has spoken on patch issues. Here's what he's said:
Atari Post - response to Issues completing patch with Direct2Drive version
The updater should be telling you the version is still 1.00 as long as the patch is failing. You should be able to play single player, and probably even multiplayer with other 1.0 versions. If you don't mind checking.
Atari Update - issues with Patch 1
Hello everyone,
We have a breif update fropm Atari and Obsidian for you concerning issues you may be seeing regarding Patch 1.
Box Retail: The English v1.01 patch is now available via the in-game autoupdate utility.
Direct2Drive Customers: For those of you who purchased the game via Direct2Drive, we have identified the issue with the autopatcher failing to complete the install for the patch, and are working diligently to resolve the problem. We do not anticipate this taking any longer than end of the day Wednesday, November 1st, Pacific Standard Time and apologize for any inconvenience.
In the interim, we invite you to fire up the single player game and start playing!
More:
Thanks everyone.
I understand of course, but you know the shiping game is pretty solid, especailly the single player.
The patch highlights are some MP fixes, feature parity with NWN 1 (like the DM client), and the misc stuff. We'll be posting some patch notes soon so you can see exactly.
If you can play the release version of the game I am sure you will enjoy it.
More:
I don't want to mis-lead anyone if there are problems, but you *should* be able to play MP with others with the same version number. 1.01 and updated versions will not be able to play with the 1.00 release, and vice versa.
Have you tried connecting with other users?
He's actually said more:
Atari Post - response to Issues completing patch with Direct2Drive version
Howdy Everyone - just a quick update on today's release of NeverWinter Nights 2 on IGN's Direct2Drive.
As you know, Direct2Drive is the ONLY place on the Internet where you can download Neverwinter Nights 2 ? and Atari partnered with D2D because the site offers the best games out there AND great customer service.
This is why we want you to know we are actively working to alleviate the patch issue and will have a solution in place later today.
As soon as we finalize the patch, we will alert you via another quick announcement. Until then, please know you can currently play the single player campaign.
Stay tuned. We will be in touch shortly.

Registration Code???
There is only one code for D2D - it is the same as the CD Key. We did this to try and actually make it more straight forward.
Appologies for the problems we are having with D2D and the autopatcher. This will be fixed as soon as possible.
update problem...
Atari is looking into this problem with the autopatcher and D2D versions of the game, and should have a fix soon.
You should be able to play the single player game for the time being.
Atari Post - response to Issues completing patch with Direct2Drive version
Can you describe the steps you are taking, that sounds like an issue with the online copy protection and the liscense?
More:
We did ensure that you would only need one key for Direct2Drive versions. If you purchased D2D, the CD Key you received should work for both installation, and activating the securom liscense.
Apoppin it does say for D2D version at topthanks Mem . ..i read EVERYTHING related on the Atari support/obsidian forums
what you posted is for D2D --ONLY
the auto updater is *broken* for many of us ... really stupidly broken
people like me - with the retail DVD - are stuck with an UNpatched game ... and it sucks for SINGLE player .... buggy as hell .... look at what major issues the patch fixed re: performance.
forget MP ... i'd like to fire up the SP campaign
and i REFUSE to do what happened to you . . .play for a couple of weeks . . . and be forced to start over
i know ... i was being very specific about the retail DVD/cd ALSO being buggedOriginally posted by: apoppin

Ironically latest Gothic 3 patch fixes the bug I had so you will be ok on fresh start if you buy G3,as for NWN2 I'll wait awhile before buying it,shame really since it seems quite common for games to be released too soon nowadays,Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Gothic 3(good now with latest patch) NWN2 and the list goes on .

Oblivion was *slightly buggy* compared to this NWN2 crap ....
:disgust:
advice to ANYone .... WAIT until you hear the bugs are fixed ... before buying
into the closet it goes .... and i'll get something else ... till next year when it may actually resemble a playable game
[maybe i won't be so irritated if i pretend i didn't get it yet ... ]
Yeah, I feel the same way. It's on the shelf until they can get the engine running decently, implement AA, tighten up the camera, and improve the AI.
I'm also put off by the fact that they re-used the same animations from the 1st NWN... they promised better animations (what happened to mocap?)
I'm never buying another game on release day again.

actually, i'd buy anything from id [IF i liked their games] ... or maybe Raven . . . ... or Bethesda [Oblivion was amazingly bug-free --for it's size .... and unlike NWN2, the Devs actively participated with ANSWERS .... these guys seem .... so LOST [there's an Island, i'd like to send them to]
