NVRAID fails XP Setup

I purchased an Asus K8N motherboard, two 512mb sticks of Kingston memory and an Athlon64 2800+ cpu from newegg to upgrade my brother's PC. As an added bonus, I got two 80gb sata drives with the intention of mirroring them on the integrated NVRaid controller. The system setup went well with the nvraid setup detecting the drives and creating an 80gb Raid1 set. However, Windows XP setup saw the drives individually rather than as a single drive. I figured I'd have to do the "F6" process to load in the NVRaid drivers (both nvraid and nvata) which would solve the problem. Unfortuneately, that's where the real problems began. Here are my results with the following drivers:

Included drivers on Asus CD: System resets when "starting windows" in text setup.
Nvidia 5.10 downloaded drivers: BSOD with 0x7b error when "starting windows" in text setup.
Nvidia 6.53 (for nforce4): System resets when "starting windows" in text setup.

I have done searches all over the web for a solution to this problem with no luck. While it seems like I'm not alone in having problems with nvraid, everything that fixes their problems fails over and over again when I try it. I've tried different memory in different slots, different bios revisions, different video cards (pci and agp), different XP cd's (SP1 and SP2), and different drivers off both standard and usb floppy drives. I then did somethign I've never done before, I called ASUS. They told me I had a defective board. After going through newegg to get a replacement (newegg rocks!), the new one had the exact same problems.

I'm losing my mind here. I've been using an Asus K8N-E for months now with no problems whatsoever (although I'm not using NVRAID on that one). I've been building systems for 8 years now and have NEVER had this much trouble with "quality" hardware.

Please... somebody... anybody... HELP! Any advice would be appreciated before I start running over this stuff with my car.

Here is what you need to try. Install just one drive. Tell the nvraid bios that you are using a mirror of one drive. Install windows without hitting F6 and see if it will see the snigle drive (I don't remember, but I think this is how I did it). After you get windows loaded, you can add the second drive to the array, and it will build it back.
