My kids both have an ASROCK B560M Pro4 motherboard. They both got a Crucial P5 Plus 2TB NVME drive (CT2000P5PSSD8) for Christmas. Unfortunately neither PC sees the drive in the BIOS. I have updated both to the newest BIOS V2.30 and the drives are installed in the top M2_1 slot. ASROCK doesn't list it on their QVL list, but they do list the 500GB P5 (CT500P5SSD8). Also, Curical compatibilty check on their website says it will work. Any tips on how to get these drives to show up?

I tried unplugging the other SATA drives, but that didn't help any. I assume the drives are good as it would seem rare to get two DOA drives.

Well Curical wasn't helpfull. Just said they are compatible, and that I should just return them both. No troubleshooting in the BIOS or anything, and I even asked if there were any settings I should check.

Hoping someone here has some tips.

What CPU?
1 x Hyper M.2 Socket (M2_1), supports M Key type
2242/2260/2280 M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen4x4
(64 Gb/s) (Only supported with 11th Gen Intel® Core™ Proces-
sors)

If you have a 10th gen CPU, I would assume that M2_1 slot should still work (at PCIe 3.0 speeds), but this assumption might be wrong.

Try the other M.2 slot (with nothing connected to SATA 3_1 port).

They both have a 10400F. So, maybe that slot just doesn't work without a 11th Gen. I will need to check that out. Thanks.

Yeah, it is stated here:

I completely missed that on the QVL. And, this is why I have been visiting Anandtech for over two decades.

I moved it to the other slot and it worked fine. Any harm in running it at PCIe3 speeds without a heatsink? It will be used as a steam drive.

Should be fine as a steam drive without a heatsink, especially since it will run at PCIe 3.
