Instead of the E6600 you can get the E6300, which is cheaper and slower.

You could probably get a 7600GT too, which would save you $90 after rebate.

Hmm... man you will need to save up some more. Like 1200 for something you will be happy with.

But, aren't those being released later in the year?

would it work better to maybe get an eMachine for like 450$ & spend the rest on replacing the cr*p parts (vidcard/power supply/etc.? SHOULD work, but I don't have time to do research for you :)...make SURE the eMachine is indeed upgradeable before buying tho...and DONT expect this system to play at highest resolutions & detail settings (thought w/ the right vidcard you should be able to get reasonably close)

First off, you dont need a 160 dollar motherboard like suggested above unless your planning on OCing or something. You will do just fine with something that costs 80-100 dollars.

Figure:

$80 - Mobo (Wait a bit for conroe mobos to show their faces more consistently, right now its mostly enthusiest stuff, though I hear ASrock has a cheap one out now)
$200 - Core 2 Duo E6300
$200 - X1900GTO
$100 - Seagate 7200.10 320GB
$33 - DVD+-RW
$50 - Case - Centurion 5
$58 - Power Supply
$80 - 1 GB Valueram
839+ Shipping

This would get you by pretty well, although 2 Gigs of ram would be alot better in the long run. I just threw this together on newegg, so if you shop around and wait for rebates you could easily get to under 850.

No.

You could easily do this for $850 if you know what you're doing. Wait until around July 27th or so for the supposed AMD and Intel price cuts, then go from there.

Nine days, but when you can get one in your hands at that price, I cannot say.

I will say that the rumors going around that there will be availability problems are exaggerated. But by how much, we do not know.

My advice is to keep your eyes open, and if you find it, good, and then buy the rest of the parts. But like I said, we won't know anything for at least another 9 days.

Yeah, I am reading that in the reviews. If true, that's just dumb. I e-mailed NewEgg about the problem. I'll post the reply.

replace 7900gt with MSI 512mb x1800xl for $200, then replace E6600 with E6400 or E6300 would fit your needs as well. Cooler Master Centurion case, some cheaper overclockable ram. Maybe even limit yourself to 1gb stick and double that later on down the road. That should have brought down the price considerably.
