Nview & Vista

so i have 2 monitors and i'm tired of using the ultramon 30day trial haha.

i heard good things about "nview" never really heard of it before. what does it do and does it work with vista 32-bit?

where can i get it?

What were you looking for exactly? You should at least have clone and dualview. Horizontal and Vertical spans don't work currently in Vista with WDDM AFAIK.

hmm i CAN get both my monitors working and programs/windows to open on both monitors but i want a productivity software, where i can have two taskbars on the bottom of the screen or ability for 2 wallpapers or 2 screen savers. maybe the ability to switch the windows to the other monitor with a button or expand across both monitors... etc

i've used ultramon before but tired of using the trial...

any free solutions?

i did, but the options they give are very basic:

1. single, clone, or dualview. i have it on dualview.
2. select the displays to use (basically select which monitor is on the L which is on the R)
3. which to use as primary (which to have the start button/clock on the taskbar)

theres no option to extend the taskbar across both monitors. is there something i'm missing?

If you drag a toolbar to a side of the screen on single view, it docks the toolbar to that side. Maybe if you drag it across monitors, you can dock it to a side on the 2nd monitor. I dunno.

Windows Vista compatibility

Do not install versions earlier than 2.7.1 on Windows Vista: installation of the mirroring feature will fail, and after each reboot Windows will try to install a driver used by the mirroring feature, which will again fail.

Version 2.7.1 will mostly work fine on Windows Vista, with the following limitations:

  1. * the mirroring feature is not available
    * when using the Aero theme, the window buttons added by UltraMon aren't visible
    * if a monitor is positioned to the left of the primary monitor, the wallpaper won't display correctly
    * UltraMon taskbars don't fully match the look of the Windows taskbar
3.0 Beta has improved Vista compatibility, but is less mature than 2.7.1.
