As far as I know, there is no way to get completely perfect AF on any of the modern cards.
I think it would be impossible for it to be perfect. You can't 'perfectly' map a texture to the ground without having some kind of issue viewing it at a different angle. It's just a matter of how good the cards can do it whilst maintaining a decent framerate. Personally I think what they have now is a perfect balance. I wouldn't be willing to sacrifice any more to reduce something that doesn't even bother me most of the time.
I guess by perfect AF I was referring to what the old Geforce 3/4 cards did. I keep an old computer for playing retro DOS and Win95 games and can't see any shimmering effects at all on the Geforce 3 in there, although that card takes a hefty performance hit with any AF.
The high quality modes from both companies looks quite acceptable to me in most games, but there are a few games where the shimmering still stands out, so it would be good to have the option. It generally tends to occur in old games (which have generic level geometry), where there is plenty of video card power to spare for any performance hit the "perfect" AF may have.
