I guess you have a more idealistic/optimistic view of company ethics in general. I operate on the premise that every big business out there would sell you down the river to make a profit and keep themselves afloat. Therefore, I pick the best product available at the time and leave ethics discussions to college profs. When profit is the motivating factor, it's foolish to label too many companies as "ethical".

Well now,we've had over 60 pages of the same statements ,by the same people over and over.

1) Some people simply don't give a sh*t about this marketing,it's a part of life and how ALL companies will start/try to do business(whether we like it or not)

2)Some people feel strongly against this type of marketing and have stated it over and over and over and over and ,...well you know(not saying I am for it,but I am also against income tax and I'm sure whining about it isn't going to change that either)

3) And some people have taken advantage of the situation and their obvious PERSONAL feelings against Rollo to use this situation to post the same name calling over and over,but do it in the battle against viral marketring,to justify it.

The people in #3 are doing the most damage against the cause,because their statements are more reflected specifically to Rollo and not the program.AT is gonna see that it is more personal to those people.If you simply would have stated your opinion against the marketing,then Rollo being invovled would have been included in the decision regardless .
But it's easy to see the people using the marketing as an excuse and it weakens the voice against the marketing.

Appopin made a good statement that it would be welcome if it was transparent.And we knew who these people are.So if all the members reveal it and openly state it ,would that be enough.Or has it simply become that personal that people feel Rollo should go regardless?

One last question--Does anybody here feel ousting Rollo will put an end to viral marketing in forums forever and ever.Can anyone guarantee there isn't another tech company using this method on AT forums as we type?

It needs to be done to send a message that this type of behavior isn't to be overlooked and tolerated. I don't know why, but somehow, I'm not convinced. Anybody can plainly see you're an attention seeker. Like to be the center of attention. A "Take matters into my own hands" type of guy. I can tell you this, I'm a "hobbyist" in computers......I retired from being an engineer and now own a restaurant/nightclub. I had NO idea what companies do until I started a business and did some investigating/question asking. Are you aware that liquor/beer companies do? They send in sales/presales people to buy consumers their products. It happens quite often especially when a new product is released. Can you get anymore "stealth" or "underhanded" than that?

Honestly, it doesn't make a huge difference to me one way or the other. However if I were currently paying for a banner ad, I'd a be a little miffed. If I were considering purchasing a banner ad, I'd consider just going the :"free" route and creating a user account. Since none of those apply to me and I have a decent BS filter, what do I care?

I had NO idea what companies do until I started a business and did some investigating/question asking. Are you aware that liquor/beer companies do? They send in sales/presales people to buy consumers their products. It happens quite often especially when a new product is released. Can you get anymore "stealth" or "underhanded" than that?

I had guessed that theere would be a hell of a lot, I hadn't guess at something like that happening in bars. Doesn't shock me, but it wasn't expected.

Long time lurker (since 2000), first time poster. This issue is ridiculous.

My thoughts on this are what no one here has even said yet.
Whats the difference between today and yesterday.. everyone knows Rollo got the Nvidia hookup?

He barely hid his association at all. And I dont see how Rollo is any different than Ronin or FUGGER, Mackie(sp?) or any of the ATI cronies that are given hardware? Whats the damn difference?

And its clear you arent hiding who he is, hes uses 'Rollo' on the OCP forums too.. I've been seen members here like Ackmed sneak around other forums like OCP under different names (fallguy) and get banned ect.
Rollo hasnt had such judgements on his head.. yet he's the bad guy? Hes never been banned, he always seemed pretty mature to me!

I dont see the difference between rollo getting free hardware yesterday, versus a stupid AEG "exposure article" coming out today.
What was exposed, that we already knew a number of people across the globe got free hardware from ATI or Nvidia? Shocking!
Yet everyone was too dense to actually listen to Rollo say "i have nvidia connections".. duh.. i think you all deserve the dunce hat and a corner.

I guess my point is that it doesnt matter if ATI hires a firm to give out hardware for them (AEG) or not.. they still give out hardware (of course) and i'm sure it has the exact same loyalty creating effects that free Nvidia hardware has on forum posting!! 😛

bottom line that AT needs to do is say (and the ONLY thing they can do, in reality), is say "anyone who mentions AEG will be banned immediately without question"

they simply cannot expose all the AEG people nor Nvidia people.. its a open forum.
they need to come down on the hardcore ATI people who are witch hunting and creating trouble. Rollo has a right to post according to the forum rules, just as everyone else.. no matter what you get for free.
I'm sure Anand gets free hardware, and Dave Baumann, dont they post here? Or are they not "influenced" by free hardware.. thus somehow not human?
AT is only destroying their relation with NV if they "witch hunt AEG".. thats pointless anyway. its effectively just pleasing the ATI fanboys.

this is about hatred for Rollo. Its impossible to discern who truley is on the side of the rightous here.

Ackmed, apoppin, Creig and many others have a bone to pick with Rollo. Its possible to seperate the hatred for him personally because hes a very charasmatic person that people (regardless of how this hurts the feelings of those here who hate Rollo) do indeed enjoy.
So hes wittier than most, and amusing.. and a great read (has been for me, for years).. and actually contributes VALID information.. no matter where the source is from.

I can say one thing, I'd rather have my information from NVIDIA than some ATI fanboy who knows nothing but what he copies and pastes ANYDAY.

Since its impossible to stop marketing on forums, its best to post a disclaimer to people who join the forum that there are indeed undercover marketers on the forum, that theres no way they can identify who is one.. and that anyone who mentions viral marketing schemes will be banned immediately (because its just flamebait).

I appreciate you coming into this thread and posting this, but I have to correct you on this point:
I was permabanned at Sharky Extreme for refusing to stop calling a guy scum who was bragging about how many cards he had RMAd after burning them up OCing.

I was also vactioned here once for returning fire in a flame war. So, I'm not "perfect".

And a lot of people don't realise that there are marketers all over the place.

I guess neither side is perfect, but you have been doing the right thing and I personally applaud you for it.

This is about people freeing their hate, not doing the forum any good.
The best solution would be to ban anyone who dares to call anyone an 'agent' or mentions marketing/AEG or similar.

If it isnt about VIDEO, it doesnt belong..
