How about you add something meaningful to the thread instead of trying to get everyone in a bigger uproar? Your posts do nothing but hit an already sore nerve with the whole AT video community.

Too many of you are wrapped up in the "OMG, They advertise on a forum without expressly saying they do?!" it's pathetic!

The world of PR, Marketing and god knows what has been kicking around this kind of thing since the fifties. It's not new, and you've ALL been smacked in the face with marketing in subtle ways. There are people out there paid far more than a lot of you to just construct ways of doing this EVERYWHERE. Why is it so shocking to some people that it comes on a forum?!

Someone quoted something from a PA news article, about a company that wanted to employ Tycho to make posts, become reputable, and eventually advertise games. Does it not strike anyone else that this has been going on as long as online retail has?

It's not a mass consipiracy devised by AEG/nVidia. Infact, they're probably the worst at it. Seeing as the people they had working for them got exposed before AEG could intervene, or before the user could cover it up.

It's not new, it's not a conspiracy, and yes there may well be account clones on these forums to do the same thing from the same people. I am willing to bet that from now on, anyone avidly supporting ATi/nVidia will be flamed to hell and back, and accused of being in some goddamned AEG style employ. If that does happen, I'm sorry, but that's just plain pathetic. The need for paranoia on a forum is nil. If you were trustin g it 100% before this, then more fool you. If you're never going to trust it again, even more fool you.

Arn't we supposed to be adults here to discuss our hoby?

So far, we're acting like a bunch of paranoid old women in a hat store. Please excuse that, if you are an old lady that hangs around in a hat store bickering with your friends over trivial, and frankly stupid, things.

To those who say that he should be able to post his opinions....

Well someone who took his advice before probably thought that he was a well meaning enthusiast.

Now they know that he works for the company he reccomends and gets a commision for it. The people that he "helped" were probably tricked, and wasted alot of money probably purchasing the wrong hardware.

As for your point about avidly promoting Nvidia, would starting useless threads about little known ATI bugs or about problems within the ATI company (that have nothing to do with the video card), or blaming ATI for bugs in 3rd party motherboards be considered harmless Nvidia promoting? Or would it be considered trolling?

There are official people from companies like DFI and OCZ found here. They do not continuously bash one company. They just provide information and answer questions about the product that their companies sell. They also help with things like RMAs and warrenty information.

People taking reccomendations on forums alone about what they want really arn't aware of the big fuss between the two companies. And probably arn't enthusiasts, or even masters of Google. So, to be honest, they deserve what they get.

I made a point about avidly promoting nVidia? Ohwell, I'll have a crack at a reply to that point anyway.

Point me to a useless thread about ATi problems? ATi isn't perfect, you know. They are not as on top of the game as nVidia (Much to my disappointment -- Better competition = Better pricing wars.) Bugs in third party motherboards can't be attributed to ATi, because of that key phrase "Third party". Not ATi's fault if their partners can't make a good motherboard. Personally, I'd not consider it nVidia promotion or Trolling, I'd consider it information. The only promotion/slander would come from the ensuing posts from enthusiasts who prefer nVidia, and take oppertunaties to pop one at ATi to make themselves feel better about their choice. Which is fine, just have to ignore that.

If they're helping with RMA's and the like, I'd doubt that they're part of the marketing division, as such not part of this 'viral marketing' (Who the hell coined that phrase?) thing.

I don't agree with the two 'sides' of the Video forum being at each others throats. But a lot of them are gamers who want the best performance for their money. So it's to be expected. RAM is all much of a muchness. As are mobo's. If it works, it's doing it's job.

With video products it's more, "Is it working flat out, balls out, upside down, and as cool as possible? Is it also ablee to wash my underwear and provide heating for my family?"

At least, from what I've seen, it is.

I don't see why you guys care so much. They aren't really any different than your average fanboy, probably better since they generally aren't immature 16yr old teens with some brand loyalty. If you take anyone's words as dogma, you're the only moron.

I realize you were trying to be sarcastic (you assumed I am trying to defend Rollo?), but yes I am sick of that stuff too, precisely. It is nothing related to video cards (issue at hand) no matter who posts it, Rollo or any other person. There are plenty of others here doing off-topic things like that too. However usually he says that stuff when people provoke him to do so. The people who continually provoke him because they have something against him are definitely not helping the matter at all. The best advice IMO is to just ignore people with whom you get in fights all the time with and there won't be any problem.

look guys we were "set up" by nVidia/AEG . . . they have very carefully tailored their Viral Marketing Programme to EACH forum.

For B3D, there are 3 known marketers that 'fit in' with their more thoughtful, insightful - and yes 'edited' - discussions.

OTOH, 'We' have their leader, Rollo - a very clever marketer whos personality "fits in" with our more boisterous - but "free" - discussions.

Make no mistake - Rollo is trained well - he knows how to take advantage of human nature and uses all the tools of his trade to PROVOKE flames and INCITE the equivalent of a "riot" - if a thread doesn't go his way.

We are dealing with a professionl campaign - these guys got good TRAINING. . . one no doubt that nVidia has invested big bucks into - "free" gifts and incentives to "manipulate" our forum may just be a small part of it.

And - according to Rollo - there are TWO others that have not come forward. . . . probably on ATF. 😉

Although he is brilliant, Rollo has personally caused much PR damage to nVidia . . . he will do his best to attempt to rectify it . . . even if it means "sacrificing himself" for his beloved company. . . .

i have zero doubt that he'll be back . . . one way or another.

Well, I thought I was done with this thread, but this is so nuts I wanted to respond:
1. Ask the other guys if I'm their "leader". Some don't even want me in the group, they think my flamboyant style of posting is in contradiction with what we're supposed to be doing. (using beta software and posting about our experiences with the hard ware if we like)

2. No one is "placed" anywhere. I post here because it's where I like to post and I have/had friends here.

3. We get no training of ANY kind, but LOL at the thought of attending "marketing class":
Instructor: If a well meaning poster brings up the blocky shadows on the gun in Far Cry, defuse the situation by referencing "Quack""

4. It's nice some of you seem to think I'm "brilliant" or a "mastermind", but I'm a middle aged, middle class guy with a couple bachelors, no different than many of you. I like to discuss computer hardware, because it's one of my hobbies. I don't like to memorize white papers, so I don't post "B3d style".

5. If AT bans my IP, I will respect their wishes and not post here. They don't even need to ban me- they can just ask.

I've virtually given up on this place because of the kinds of comments towards Rollo. For god sakes people, give it up. Please. You are only crapping on this website and making it worse for people to go through threads to find ACTUAL information. 90% of this thread is crap, and its hell trying to go through it to try and find some worthwhile information. You guys are not harming Rollo in any way, but your pissing off other members by your constant go-round spouting the same crap, and crapping on EVERY thread that even may REMOTELY involve Rollo, even before the guy POSTS IN THE DAMN THREAD!!! That is trolling, and every single one of you sad excuses for a human being deserve to be banned. Grow up, and post some useful information.

The AEG member posts all the time, spread through the day. If I would do that, my employer would fire me and my wife ask for a divorce. Reading all and posting like that is almost like a job - it consumes time!

This would be pretty easy to prove/disprove.

Why don't you just look at the times I post genious?

I think you'll find 99% are before 8am CST, between 11-1:30 CST, and after 5 CST? Know why this is?

Because I go to work at 8, come home for lunch sometime between 11-12, and get home at 5?

Right.

I'm right up there with thieves, rapists, and murderers.

If someone took my opinions as valid, they might end up not having angle independent AF, like all the poor 9700/9800/X800 owners had to suffer through.

It's a pretty big deal alright. I don't know how I sleep at night, knowing someone might have believed me when I posted "I like SLI".

1. I have never hidden my association with nVidia. I've posted it many times here, at Hardocp, Firing Squad, and nVNews.

2. I have always said that I get the reference cards "discounted", "deeply discounted", and the like. Never once did I say I paid full retail for them.

3. I've posted many times that my cards come straight from nVidia, which is true.

4. In my signature I note that my cards are reference.

5. I've posted links to pictures of my reference cards here and elsewhere.

6. I posted about software before it was available to the public.

Does it sound like I was trying to hide my association to nVidia to you?

Rollo. I don?t really have that much of an opinion on this subject as I don?t really enter or reside in this forum. I just pop in now and then to find out up to date news.

To be fair what I have read from you in other threads doesn?t seem that bad (However little I have read), and you have provided information on things that I did not know however bias that might have been. There are a lot of others that contribute to mass the flamefest (it takes atleast two 😛).

Anyways I was wondering what sort of job do you actually do, if you don?t mind me asking?

I do software tech support, occasionally training. 90% of my day is logging on to clients networks remotely, fixing their errors, writing reports, configuring the software, and demonstrating proper use of the software.

I don't think I'd want to do "this" for a living, what I actually do is very rewarding in that every day I help people do their jobs and end their problems.

I joined the focus group because I've always bought a lot of video cards and the group gave me access to some free, and inside information. I thought using the beta software and posting about my experience with the hardware and software was a reasonable exchange, especially since I wasn't even required to post.

It?s good to see all of those nVidia marketing tools getting exposed. I believe this has to be one of the most humiliating things to happen to nVidia and it?s good to see this company?s arrogance sink in the sea.

But I got to tell you that they did pretty well on convincing people to buy Geforce cards, especially 15 years old kids. 😀

What I don?t understand is that some members are actuality defending Rollo and company even after this news! Maybe they?re nVidia fanboys but still cmon!

And yes I prefer ATI cards because I have nothing to hide. 😉

I doubt anyone is surprised this happens. Marketing is marketing. Unlike you though, most people here realize that marketing agents should be banned if they're found.

You have a losers attitude. "This happens all the time, it'll never stop, everyone does it, why even bother addressing it ..."

Yes, that is what I mean. When you post you have a friend at nVidia who supplies you with reference cards and beta software, you are not hiding your association with nVidia Morph.

If you read my old posts, you'll find examples of everything I posted in points 2-5. It's public record, and can be found by anyone who wants to go to the trouble. I can't really lie about old unedited posts, can I Morph?

6. I posted about software before it was available to the public.

Does it sound like I was trying to hide my association to nVidia to you?

You mean when you said you got beta drivers from your friend that works for Nvidia?

[/quote]

Yes, that is what I said, and again, it can be found in old unedited posts. And I did get beta software and reference hardware directly from nVidia, just like I said. I also got some from AEG, but the source of all is the nVidia engineering sample inventory and a developer relations FTP site I have access to.

Keep trying Morph.

The fact of the matter is the ONLY deception here is I didn't state I was a member of of the focus group, and I didn't reveal some of the cards were free.

what it is is.....reality has suddenly smacked the delusional and naive ones in the face and they are shocked and dont like how the big bad world operates. of course the people who actually have a clue arent in the least bit suprised or bothered and are just going to get on with their lives as normal.

I doubt anyone is surprised this happens. Marketing is marketing. Unlike you though, most people here realize that marketing agents should be banned if they're found.

You have a losers attitude. "This happens all the time, it'll never stop, everyone does it, why even bother addressing it ..."

no i just dont get offended by much........either way you should check out FI.....the new forum software which is around the corner and hopefully implemented by jason for this site is looking sweet, and has a very nice feature

you can ignore certain users, and block all content by them, so you can filter out the users that post bull, or those you think are marketers.

marketing trash is all around us 24/7 you just gotta be abit smart and learn what to listen to and what not to, thats the answer to this.

i have a laid back attitude to the internet.....its not a big thing, not to be taken seriously. i have a perfectionist attitude toward my university work, and i have a winners attitude toward my chosen sport, in which i do very well thanks ..... read european level.
