THe nano probably preforms less than dual core atoms now.

The entire Nano line outperforms the single core Atom line, including Pine Trail. The Atom 330, dual core atom, bested the top end Nanos, but Via launched the Nano 3000 series last November, which put its flagship performer over the Atom 330.

plus this will allow nvidia to legally make an ugraded higher end x86 CPU legally...
Its about time too, I predicted that for years...

My guess is that nvidia (which has been semi secretly hiring tons and tons of ex CPU engineers) have been developing an x86 processor. And now that they feel it is fairly ahead in design they have finally purchased via for the legal right to produce said processors. aka to avoid tip their hand early...

It wouldn't surprise me if Nvidia is working on an x86 compatible CPU, given the trends to move GPU cores onto the same die as the CPU. Intel and AMD have clear advantages in this. However, I thought Via's right to produce x86 chips was sketchy, they got it from purchasing Cyrix who supposedly had a nontransferable license? They don't do enough volume in the CPU market to make any kind of impact, though I would still love to see a Nano 3000 series Ion machine.
