NVIDIA Storage Driver?

Also, what is the SMBus driver?

I keep seeing people say not to install NVIDIA's IDE driver and I'm not sure exactly which one (or if both) is the IDE driver.

When installing the nVidia unified driver, simply uncheck the IDE driver option and you'll be good to go. I leave the rest default checked and that's all fine and dandy.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. It doesn't say "IDE driver". It lists nvidia storage driver, SMBus Driver, ethernet driver, and audio driver.

The storage driver must be the IDE driver but what is SMBus driver?

I tried that and all I found out was it stands for System Management Bus. All I want to know is if SMBus and Storage Driver and part of the IDE drivers people keep talking about here.

There is an excellent chance the System Management Bus is not the storage driver, and that the storage driver, well, is the storage driver.

Correct. The SMBus is a separate driver in the unified driver package.

The NVIDIA SW IDE Driver is the one that people constantly complain about. Back in the nForce & nForce2 era there was an issue where the IDE drives were being listed as SCSI devices when you installed the SW IDE driver. Some people had problems with their burning software recognizing the drive. However that issue was fixed a long time ago.

FWIW I've been selecting "YES" to install it for about 4 years now on a multitude of systems. It is an option, and the MS IDE driver will work just fine for those that are paranoid.

What I'm trying to say is there is no "NVIDIA SW IDE Driver" listed. It says "NVIDIA Storage Driver". So is this the "NVIDIA IDE Driver"?

Also, when people talk about not installing the IDE driver they still install the SMBus driver correct?
