NVIDIA RULEZ: Apple now OEM, MX cheap and powerful, reviews everywhere

you forget the stock was at $40 before the rumors of x-box even existing showed up. And even then, nobody knew what 3d card x-box was gonna have.

Nvidia stock has been a good performer, but i personally wouldn't invest in any graphics card company.

Mike

ATi outdated? Well they give the best DVD performance, and most Aple users are into watching movies more than gameing. ATi also has one of the most sophisicated chips in development, able to render things that the nVidia engineers are still dreamin about.

This guy is outta his mind !!!

1. Apple OEM ? Huh ? Maybe I forgot that Apple is the next BIG thing and so any OEM with them is the end of the world for ATI/3Dfx.

2. Stock market ? Take a look at buy.com, Amazon and yahoo stocks. Then take a look at some great old economy company stocks. Then take a look at middle path companies like Gadzoox and Legato. If you make any sense of the market, you are a genius. And if you are making predictions based on the market, you are one BIG A..H.

3. MX is cheap ? Oh ya, till today, NVidia has convinced suckers like you to cough up $300 every six months and the fun part is that you guys actually cough up that much cash every quarter to upgrade to new technology !!! Mabye NVidia understands now that low cost cards are really necessary to gain market share from the OEM kings like ATI. And you know what ? The people who happliy bought a V3 or a G400 one year ago are still playing great games and are now probably thinking about upgrading to the MX !!!

I do wanna continue with the review point. But Im bored now !!!

I wouldn't hold your breath, Pariah.

Hardware never replies when his nef'ing is challenged.

Although, I am very curious as to his passion for nVidia, and borderline hatred for their competition. Financial? Somehow, I doubt that.

I'm also curious as to why he'd list the specs on his work PC. How about your home PC, Hardware?

And what do you do for a living, that you need a 22" monitor and an overclocked Athlon?

Something's not adding up very well.

Hey hardware, what does your company do that would require geforce mx gfx cards? cuz I'd sure love to work there! 🙂

And ATi is OEM with compaq so they are evil in my eye!

OK, it started as a troll post, BUT....not so wrong.

I really expected more from most of you.

1. What has nvda done wrong?
2. They have proven that they have a vision in their market.
a. innovative product in the pipeline
b. support for product
c. saw the market segment possibilities and pounced
d. able to sell product at a price that the market will bear, yet decreasing as necessary to stay price competitive. They still have not been forced to "give it away".
3. Lame comparison with the .com's. nvda makes a profit.
4. So what if ATI has been around forever? If they don't maintain or increase market share, they lose.
5. So what if 3dfx "was". They aren't now, and never will be again. They didn't have the vision. They stayed proprietary. They are taking STB down with them (not that it took a lot of doing). Pioneering doesn't mean squat (Intel). A company must change as needed or they die.
6. How long do you think ATI will maintain the notebook chip market?
7. Continual increase in profitability and market share will prove out over time.

Feel free to throw this thread in my face 3 years from now. I can handle it.

Oh, I don't think anybody is saying that nVidia videocards aren't excellent products. Or that nVidia is a company without foresight.

People are just sick of Hardware's tunnel vision, and troll-like posts. I guess some people are just "calling him out", which (of course) he won't respond.

If you aren't familiar with his infamous threads... do a search for his name. It's really quite amazing that he doesn't get sick of himself. 😉

Hardware, oh really? I'm just curious as to why you are so blind. Would you mind explaining that please. 🙂

"Voodoo3 best seller ... they did very well" haha good laugh 3dfx nearly went out of money because of the best seller!

Interesting because the Voodoo3 was still selling better than any GeForce DDR or SDR or TNT2 or TNT2U. Why? For the simple reason that it is cheap and people know 3dfx's name. It was a best seller and it may still be, not in OEMs but in stores.

You just posted your specs...no g400 max, dumbass.

MX IS cheap and powerful with a 350 mhz ramdac the 2d is good enough
(I have a g400 max too and cant see any significant advantage for the g400)

Did you use a crusty old 14" Packard Bell monitor from '88 or something?!?!?!

The reviews are everywhere and you can bet that is a huge advantage!
(did you read anything from Matrox ot ATi?)

As a matter of fact, ATi has gotten a lot of press for their Radeon (not radon as you called it, that stuff is a potentially deadly gas, something that you seem to emit profusely on these boards. 🙂) and many previews with potential performance and specs.

Matrox has gotten some press for a business product...a business product is getting press. How often do you see this in the tweaking/hardware community?! BTW, in case you channel out anything not pro-nVidia the matrox card is the G450 and is coming out this summer.

Matrox got tons of reviewer doing reviews of their g400/max cards.

HARDWARE: "Its a hard time for Ati and 3dfx."

It could very well be. A lot of questions will be answered this Fall/Winter.

1- Can NVIDIA's follow-up chipset continue their upward trend? The GeForce 2 GTS is basically a GeForce w/a die shrink allowing higher clock speeds. That won't work twice unless they can add MUCH faster DDR-SDRAM. Even a dual GeForce 2 won't cut it since the current card runs into the memory bandwidth limits already.

2- Can ATi deliver with the Radeon and (assuming they produce it) Radeon MAXX? We've seen the specs and heard the previews, but the proof is in the real-world performance. Having awesome technology won't matter if you can't get it into people's hands. ATi needs to get this card out soon. While it's true that ATi's business is safe due to its very large OEM business, they're making a very visible move towards the high-end gaming/3D market, and doing poorly would be a PR black eye that they don't want/need.

3- Can 3dfx deliver both the Voodoo5 6000 and their next gen part on time? Gamers will buy the 6000, no doubt in my mind. But they won't buy it if something better appears in the meantime, and that may happen if they wait too long. Nor can 3dfx rest on its laurels. The worst thing that can happen to them is that they remain 6-8 months behind the industry leaders. Becoming an also-ran is a recipe for a slow, painful death in the vidcard market right now.

4- Can Matrox deliver the G800 in time? Rumor is that they're having trouble getting the G450 out the door, and that is considered a relatively minor update to the G400. Spectacular 2D performance won't win it for Matrox, they need to deliver on the impressive specs that we're seeing for the G800. Matrox may be a known quantity to graphics pros, but they're also living down their problems with providing OpenGL wrappers for both the G200 and G400. Same as with 3dfx, Matrox could be on the slow road to "Mergers&AcquisitionVille".

I see NVIDIA and ATi in a good position. NVIDIA has the X-Box deal and is making some headway into the OEM market with their value parts. ATi is probably on track for a Fall release of the Radeon, which will help solidify their position in the Mac market. And ATi is still king in the OEM world, where most of the money in vidcard sales is to be made. 3dfx and Matrox are not in any immediate danger of folding, but they cannot take their current troubles for granted. They have to catch up, and keep up, in order to make enough money to stay in the game.

I'd hate to see a graphics market that consisted of only NVIDIA and ATi. The four major companies we have now can keep some performance and price pressure on each other, and that is to our benefit. Let's hope it stays that way...

Yeah, but why so passionate for nVidia?

And what's the driving desire by so many "anti-3dfx" threads? I mean, you know you are really irratating people.... so why do it?

It's at the point where you could have a very valid point, but because of all the trolling in the past, nobody really cares what you have to say.

It's obvious you want everyone to buy nVidia, and to see their competition go out of business... but why?

I think it is because their life is meaningless and found that they could try to give meaning to it with bullsh!t like being a zealot for a company that doesn't care about them.

Hardware is a troll - just ignore him. Posts like these pop up every once in a while. Just let them die!

Marty

Freaky just made my day. What's with the company loyalty? Buy the best product. That's it. That's how the free market economy works. Most (all?) video card company heads would laugh their @$$es off if they were to ever read these posts by 3Dfx zealots and nVidiots. Just LET IT GO.

Uncamilty, good points until...

4- Can Matrox deliver the G800 in time? Rumor is that they're having trouble getting the G450 out the door, and that is considered a relatively minor update to the G400. G800 is going to be out in Q4, I highly doubt seeing it in the Sept/Oct. area that they originally hoped for. The G450 is for business use, odds are the only way we will get it (besides buying an OEM computer) is direct from matrox. This card is strictly business (double meaning). OpenGL wrappers? Hardly, more like code to speed up the openGL in certain games. They have a full OpenGL API however, they knew they could speed it up even more so they released TurboGL to improve OpenGL in certain games. How is that a wrapper? You clearly don't see how big of a company matrox is, go to http://www.matrox.com and you will see all the departments that they have right there on the front page. Consumer graphics (in retail stores or online stores) is NOT holding them up at all. It is their professional and industrial graphics that make them big and their OEM deals. I'm wondering if they had more revenue than nVidia last year actually, I will have to do a lil investigative work. 🙂 No mergers or aquisitions for matrox, unless they are aquiring someone else. 😉 BTW, matrox is a privately held company so hardware, don't try and look em up. 😉

Disclaimer: I am not a matrox head, I just defend them cuz not as many people are as familiar as I am (I did some digging and whatnot about them) so I don't want false info floating around. 🙂

>G800 is going to be out in Q4

Could be. As much as I'd like to see companies hitting their targets, the truth is it doesn't always happen (see: 3dfx).

Thanks for the clarification on the OpenGL issue. It took Matrox a good long time to get OpenGL support for the G200, didn't it? I thought they had similar problems with the G400. That's what I get for not playing enough QUAKE. 🙂

>You clearly don't see how big of a company matrox is, go to
>http://www.matrox.com and you will see all the departments

I think that you missed my point. When I said that the path to irrelevance is long and slow, I mean LONG AND SLOW. It could take years. Yes, companies like Matrox and ATi have lucrative markets outside of the mainstream, but these are markets that companies like NVIDIA are trying to work their way into as well. It will, IMO, take a long, long time to penetrate those markets to a considerable degree. But it begins with a very visible misstep (or series of missteps).

I have high hopes for Matrox because I find that their cards provide the best quality 2D picture at high resolution, by far. And I expect the vidcard market to remain a 4/5 player game for now (tossing 3DLabs into the mix) and for the forseeable future. But it's imperative for companies like Matrox and ATi, who seem the most stable at present, not to take that position for granted.

Unca, yeah, they are probably missing their target of Sept/Oct and going Q4 with the G800. 🙁

They did have OpenGL problems with the G200, however, that card had fake 3d...no, it had 3d, but its inception was a 2d affair only. Only later did they add 3d capabilities to the drivers. The G400's drivers have been fine, actually, the beta drivers (4.13, the ones reviewers got...5.17 or something were shipping drivers...heh, lotta progress obviously) weren't all that bad either. Check out Anand's G400 MAX preview with a preproduction board and beta drivers.

I really don't see matrox going outta business in the next 20 years...they are the oldest graphics company there is actually. They've been around since the 70s, same with AMD. 🙂

Anyways, I wish neffing/trolling/company loving was grounds for bannishment from here...if it was, our beloved Hardware here woulda been gone long ago! 😛

?Spectacular 2D performance won't win it for Matrox?

Uhh?you forgot to say spectacular, stunning, and eye-catching 3D performance also! 😛

?Matrox could be on the slow road to "Mergers&AcquisitionVille?.?

Sorry you feel so, Matrox as well nVIDIA, has been leading a large OEM operation.

Go here:

http://www.matrox.com/mga/press_room/lat_press_rel/millg400_quantex.htm

As you can see Micron, Dell, IBM, Gateway, Compaq, Fujitsu, HP, Quantex, Intergraph etc, moreover they have won many awards from independent websites as well as associated websites. PC Magazine Editors Choice award, PC Accelerator award for best hardware, 3D Hardware.net All star product, PC Gamer Editors Choice, Maximum PC Kick A** Product etc.

We all know Matrox is not the 3D performance king, or speed demon on silicon! But I state as personal opinion that my G400MAX kicks major a**, and I?ve tried the CLAP-2, and V5. I feel both cards weren?t enough to replace my G400MAX (I sure others G400 owners feel the same).

So if there shall be any acquisitions, it?ll be done by Matrox.

[EDIT] Opps...linked.

Only time will tell...but the G800 should be more then what we expect from Matrox.

>Check out Anand's G400 MAX preview with a
>preproduction board and beta drivers.

No need, I have a G400 MAX here, in a backup system. Maybe I'll update the drivers and give it a whirl. If I played 3D games anymore, I guess I'd know more about how well it does. 'Teach me to spout off. 🙂

>Sorry you feel so, Matrox as well nVIDIA,
>has been leading a large OEM operation.

I don't feel that Matrox is in trouble, just that they could be if the G800 is significantly delayed. I think I've made clear that I have no desire to see any of the remaining players grow weak or die, and certainly not Matrox. If the G800 hits its target specs, I'll need a bigger bib. 🙂

I think NVIDIA has the NV20 ready on time. They got big $ from MS to make te NV20! I heard about single-pass 4XFSAA which would do an instant kill to all 3dfx vsa-100 products!
3dfx must hurry to get the rampage out!
matrox seems to be somewhat slow to me the g450 seems to be a cheaper g400 the g800? release date 2001?
Ati the rage chip is getting old very fast , dvd playback is no problem anymore for the nvidia chips (is the voodoo3 dvd able?) The radeon seems to be promising but lets wait and see!
S3 seems to be out of game already after the viper ii desater!

zippy: There is a difference between selling and earning money!
My g400 max is now in my parents pc (they using only 640x480x8!)
I tried the g400,g400 max on some 21" crts, sony, nokia and iiyama!

Hardware, I'm not going to reply to your useless rumor jabbering, not worth my energy.

However, the G450 comes out soon...this summer. It is an improved G400 MAX. It has DDR plus a .18um core for a higher core speed. It has two separate dacs now so the second monitor can do as high as the first (assuming you want run the second about 1024x768). It is cheaper than the G400 max was too. It is for business machines, not gamers, though, personally, the G400 MAX (I have one) is really nice for gaming...the G450 is better. 😛

WTF?! Do you not understand the concept of revenue or something?! Matrox probably has more REVENUE as nVidia and they also sell more than nVidia does. Matrox is a lot more than consumer graphics as I have been saying, so they aren't relying on the g400 to keep up the money making. That is probably why they never rush anything to market, they always take their time and release the highest quality components testing is thoroughly (heh, unlike nVidia or 3dfx, GeForce having trouble on the athlon platform (okok, anand is too...but that is the only occurance I've heard of that happening actually...must still be using that preproduction board or something) and the Voodoo3 having only a heatsink and overheating in some situations with systems that have poor ventilation and circulation...and boiling water actually, people have dropped droplets of water on and watched them boil! :Q Just a few examples.).

🙂

Hardware... of course you think nVidia will have the NV20 done on time. Do you really think anyone here thought different of your opinion?
