My mobo has no PCI slot right next to the AGP. Mine FX is still on preorder.

It's half a year late, it takes up a PCI slot, sucks an enormous amount of power, runs extremely hot, and at last report, sounds like a Dustbuster, performs competitively with ATI's six-month-old Radeon 9700 Pro, and is expected to retail for $499 in the US or approximately 650 Euros in the EU. This isn't exactly a winning combination.

A couple of quick questions. 1) Has anyone actually figured out how much power this thing uses(and how much of that is only the core, and not the blower)? 2) $499! Someone better tell Best Buy. They are doing pre-orders on their retail cards(retails are all Ultras) for only $399, $100 less.😱

HUH?1

I thought Visiontek was THE biggest Geforce pusher.

Are they gonna stop selling all those Geforce 4's and MX's now ?

i hear you can free up that AGP slot by cramming the FX into an PCI slot, if it doesnt fit well just shave off part of the bottom connectors, most are for decoration anyway

AFAIK they are still releasing products with Nvidia chipsets. I suppose they are just drumming up their ATI stuff now.

To those of you who stepped in dog Sh!t making fun of me, I said:

I think you mean AGP slot. Never make fun of how stupid something is and leave yourself open."

I said so because it's an AGP card not a PCI card, generally. That's why I said I think. I wasn't sure. I then added the part about making fun of people. I didn't make fun of anybody. I was correcting a possible mistake copy pasted from another site. I WAS NOT making fun of the poster. He WAS making fun of Nvidia. A bunch of you have now made fun of me, because you can't think, analyze, or understand that there was no fun-making in my post.

Now there is though. 😀

And as for the performance, just wait for drivers actually designed to take advantage of the new core. KTHXWIN.

you'd think with an extra half year to work on drivers that the ones that came with it would be decent

lol...

yes, it IS an AGP card, but the blowing mechanism takes up the adjacent PCI slot immediately below the AGP..

thus the play on your words...

😀

I feel sorry for anyone with so many PCI cards that they need to use the slot next to the AGP. The noise is what kills me. Pretty lame. I will stick with my Ti440 for the near future.

It was supposed to be released around the same time as the R9700.
Yeah, uh, no. No one pays attention to release dates which are more than 6 months away from the claiming date, anyway.

It's not even out yet! They reviewed a product sample!

They didn't really have an extra half a year to work with the drivers. Because of the .13 problems, they didn't have final silicon to work with until a couple of months before the lauch. Had it come out when it was supposed to, they still would have had only a couple of months. Basically, their driver team had to spin its wheels for a bit because of the delay in silicon.

Whatever the case, even if the final version of the FX does match up, or even slightly exceed ATI's 9700, there's no excuse for it to have such a ridiculously large profile or "use so much power" as it's purported to.

Also given that ATI supposedly has a new card due for launch soon, nVidia needs to get their game in gear.

Tough. They've ALREADY made a few adjustments to the card.

So, if it's a good thing to leave the PCI-slot next to your vid-card empty, doesn't that mean that the FX doesn't eat one, but TWO PCI-slots? I mean, the fan eats the first PCI-slot. And since it's a good thing to leave the next PCI-slot empty, you are now two PCI-slots short.

The reason you leave the slot directly below the agp slot empty is because they eat from the same bandwith and you can cause problems running something demanding off that pci slot (my short, non technical answer). If the fan on the video card eats up that spot, you don't go and empty out your 2nd pci slot just so there is 1 empty pci slot. In other words, the fact that it eats up this pci slot is MOOT in most people's systems. I will also agree others, that the sound will be what will keep me away from this card -- my computer is running very quietly right now.
