Right.

Still. This card is so crippled in regards to amount of RAM and speed of RAM, I don't see the point. The extra sp's? Umm... ok. I'll just get the 512MB.

Can't wait to see 256MB vs. 512MB benchies. 😀

No. $200-ish would the MSRP for the very cheapest 6-layer variants that the no name manufacturers will crank out. You're going to pay somewhere between that and $250 for one of the reputable brands/models and more for an OC model.

256mb vs. ati release should be even more interesting..

I wouldn't sink any money into a new 256meg card though. So many games need more than 256mb currently without any AA.

They will be wasting the GPU's with this card and the 512 versions will continue to be in short supply and higher priced. They should have waited until next year to release this card.

i hope that some enterprising manufacturer comes up with an in between model..

say one with 512mb of ddr3, but using 1400mhz ddr3 like most budget cards (such as 8600gt). for say $190 in stead of $250 for the full 1800mhz. i could live with that. 256mb is way too little for a midrange card, now that a lot of games can take advantage of 512mb. mabye if this was $150 and not $200. at $200 its too close to the faster and more memory version.

Ah shoot, you stole my thunder. I was going to do one of those quotations with the text "fixed" at the same price range you figured. Get it? Get it? Aw phukket.

the only real qustion is how this card compares to the 3850... if the 512MB GT vs 3870 are any indication then AMD is in trouble.

The 320mb GTS took a huge hit when it's framebuffer filled up, so if nVidia didnt fix this problem with their architecture with G92 I would expect to see the 256mb GT perform under the 256mb 3850

the 8800 gt 512 meg cards prices are way jacked up to like $350, kinda waiting till these cards come down to around $200, hopefully less than a year from now?

newegg is now out of stock. the cards don't even show up on the site any more.

It's still there and in stock as of about a minute ago. It appears that there is something messed up in the search for that card for some users (maybe depends on which server they hit or something?).

Oooh, some reviews are in and the 256MB GT beats the 3870! Except for a few high end games at 1920x1200 resolution with max AA.
