You hear the whining in the background? Those are EVGA customers complaining that they can't get a free upgrade.

Disappointing card. I can't wait for the fanboys to start the "OMG, Look at the dual chip cards! They pwn." It's called having a contingency plan when you single card can't hold the competition.

Still no new features, less bandwidth but higher clocks should put it a little above 7800GTX 512. After having almost a whole year since the 7800GTX, I can't believe this is all nvidia can come up with. I'm hoping the benchmarks prove me wrong though.

Forgive my ignorance, but why is that?

Haha, it says the MSRP for the 7800GTX 512 will be $399. Heh, who will actually be able to find it at that price? Remember the MSRP right now was $650??? And what was it ACTUALLY costing?? $750 right? I'd LOVE to see the 7800 GTX 512 go down to retail $399 but I doubt it'll happen.

Could it be a price drop because NV know's the 7900 series won't beat X1900 series like they thought it would so they cut the prices to stay competitive and sell more cards? This is not a flame...its a question....

Well I doubt a 7900GTX 24/8 @ 650/1600 is going to beat an X1900XTX, so I would think that your prediction is true: nVidia is going to try to offer their cards at lower than the competition because they know they cant compete.

Although this sounds great, it also means I better sell one of my 7800GTs as soon as possible, before the price goes below $200 or something. :p

[edit] yay, I'm a golden member now. :p

Exactly and if you look at the nvidia's investor conf call notes, you'll see they keep chanting "competitive pricing" when taking about the 7900 series cards.

Also, they'll do their normal PR spin and start promoting the dual cards as a mainstream solution when really it's a contingency plan.

Oh they already are doing it - their chief AEG agent Rollo is busy espousing the greatness of quad SLI over at the HardOCP forums. If he wasn't banned here I'm sure he'd have created a thread about it by now.

lol. You are stupid. You try to point out fanboys when you aparently are ATI biased. This is a refresh, not a new generation card. NVIDIA is making them for cheaper cost, better yields, lower power consumption.

The want a faster card to hold customers over, plus Quad-SLI before they can released DX10 compatible cards

Sorry to go a bit off topic but these forums have been quite nice since his departure. People who used be "fanboys" are even showing signs of logic and the topics now have mature debates. Thumbs up to the improvement.

My only bias is to my money. I was hoping the 7900GTX would be a 32pipe monster card so I could sell my x1800xt and get one. It's looking like that won't be the case which is sad for me as a consumer. I don't care for a DX10 card with Vista still about 7-8months away.

I don't care what either company lables their cards as "refresh or new series." I just care for the performance. If they street price drops to about $450 on the 7900GTX, it should sell quite well.

Regardless of how well the 7800 GTX 512 compares to the X1900XTX, it's still a Great card for $399...

And so what if nVidia wants to reduce their prices to be more competitive...That's a win-win situation for anyone looking to upgrade to one of these great cards @ a better price than what most of us paid for ours...

Yes, I know we all want the latest & greatest, but let's not discount these cards...An even greater value once the price wars begin...

nVidia does know that their 7900 series may not be up to par w/ the X1900 series...IF that's the case, why on earth would be complaining about more competitive prices & better value for our money?

I agree that the 7900 series should be on par w/ the X1900 series, so don't overlook my point...

This is obviously a hypothetical scenario at this point...

Hell, I'd be willing to buy the 7800 GTX 512's for $399 each...In a Heartbeat! :)

Those are great prices! I guess the g80 must be close if the fire sale is starting before the g71 launch. Interesting.

It has been reported that EVGA does not let you get free cards.
