I forget what game, but it's in his youtube video, but the point is his test showed a DirectX-12 game using 9GB of video ram in his Titan X.. just at 1080p. And 4k would use nearly +4x of that. In fact in his test the AMD R9 Fury X was the lowest in the test most likely because of it's 4GB of ram vs the nvidia cards with 8GB and 12GB.

Guessing it was Tomb Raider? DX12 is completely broken in it.
 
How can the reference design be $100 more than MSRP? Has anyone been able to answer that question yet? What card will be at MSRP then, one that throttles worse than the reference? I don't think I can overlook that.

The reference model doesn't throttle below its rated specs at stock, only when overclocked, AFAIK. Hopefully all models, even ones with cheap coolers, will be able to maintain boost clock during games.

Well of course it's "hopefully". But the reference cards clocks quickly fall off from their max after a small amount of time, as they heat up rather quickly it seems. This smells badly of anti consumerism. So in some amount of time, a card will be released with inferior quality at the MSRP. I suppose that's why NV have a truck load of advocates selling their ideas all over the web, because if consumers weren't spoon fed this garbage they'd throw it right out the window.

It's already been explained a lot online and in here in this thread. nvidia is expecting their "Founders Edition" (since that's what we're calling reference design now a days) to be at the "mid-level" of the pricing tiers for the GTX 1080, for their $700 cards. And let "Board partners" (MSI, EVGA, Inno3D, Gigabyte, ETC) price their cards anywhere between $600 and above. The expecting idea is that most board partners will release "founders edition" reference cards at $600, then they'll release their own custom-designs at $700, and then likely we'll see like.. water cooled hybrid 1080's and full factory water-blocked (EVGA Hydro Copper) GTX 1080's in the $800-$900 range.
 
Don't they tell you the prices in the US? Most of our e-tailers in the EU have also listed their (ridiculous) sales prices. It's £630 in the UK. Thats more than $900!

It's not for sale in the USA until the 27'th, that's the official release date by nvidia. Those prices over there are pre-order prices. No one has it actually for sale and shipping yet anywhere globally.

Just like people in the USA are trying to charge $1800 to pre-order them on USA EBAY.

Interesting, those boxes don't say Founder's Edition on the front, wonder if it's on the back?

GALAX are the first to leak non-Founder's cards using a terribly looking blower.

EDIT: NVM, seems looking at some of the boxes found on Newegg, they all don't say Founder's Edition but are clearly them.

How is this any different with Maxwell prices? I admit the Titan price seems off but the Ti's prices are in line withwhat past pricing has been.


On another note, I noticed no one has really said anything about GP102, if it exists. Correct me if I'm wrong but haven't the past Titan's and Ti's been based on Gx100 dies?


My guess is HBM2 isn't ready in mass, or just may be way overkill for desktop cards. Looks like they split the 'big chip' into two: GP100 w/ a HBM2 mem controller for Tesla and Quadro cards and GP102 w/ a GDDR5X mem controller for Titan and 1080ti cards...that is only if that table from chiphell is true. Looks like Nvidia is using the newer memory technologies to really differentiate each product segment, rather than just total amount of memory. Also kinda explains why nvidia went with the slower speed gddr5x for 1080, because they're reserving the faster speeds for the ti.

Yes but they haven't always been fully enabled, or uncut dies, that have been used for the Titan or the x80Ti IIRC.

Not true, AMD is releasing at least one of the Vega cards with HBM2. It's just that Nvidia is having trouble with HBM2 atm & is the main reason why GP100, with HBM2, is not coming to the desktop.

As I said previously, it's just Nvidia not being able to handle HBM2 as AMD can, probably with the experience they've had since Fury. Notice how users demeaned the Fury launch for being as late as it was, & overpriced, now we'll see if the same standards apply to the big Pascal launch.
 
HBM2 doesn't really make sense vs 384bit GDDR5X at 10-12Ghz.

HBM2 got an ECC advantage, that's great for Tesla. But in terms of gaming cards the benefit pretty much stops there and all the cons pops out.

So its natural for a GP102 Geforce chip to use GDDR5X.

There was an Ebay one that claimed he had 2 in early and in hand , all sold out now. I noticed this with some other products too like the PS4 2 weeks before it even released, I never bite on those, I'm paranoid of such.

What kills me is that I signed up for every site that was supposed to send me email when pre-orders go up. I even had several sites from Amazon to Newegg on tracker and nothing....Next I see is nowinstock showing preorders out of stock, i was like WTF? How did everyone else know so quick?

Maybe I need to buy that guide for $550 😀
