nVidia IDE driver?

Nocturnal

Lifer
I tried to install this and after the Windows splash screen it doesn't load Windows. If I revert to last known good config it works... with the MS IDE driver.

How do I enable NCQ if I can't install the nVidia IDE driver. Or is there a trick to installing the driver?

how did u install ? The driver is packaged with the nvidia NF4 drivers from the nvidia site .. or you should have the older version on the CD provided with the motherboard... In either case, you run the install option from the CD, and it will prompt you as to which drivers and utility programs to install...

you should be able to install these right over the existing drivers

I just installed the newest one off of nVidia's site and it works. Thanks. Now only if I could pin point how this thing was blazing fast last night but not now. Weird.

Do you have an nForce 4 mobo? Do you have the latest BIOS for it?

NM: I found another thread where you said you had an A8N-SLI Deluxe. So by slow, how so?

I know a lot of people want to enable NCQ. Maybe just to give it a try or see if it works, but just as a reminder it wasn't shown to boost desktop performance. In fact it hinders performance somewhat in many desktop usage patterns.

AFAIK, the nVidia IDE driver enable NCQ by default, but as sxr7171 said, enabling NCQ infact hinders performance.

If you want to enable/disable NCQ, go to Device Manager, double click IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, then select one of the NVidia NForce4 ADMA controllers where your SATA drive is located, select the primary channel tab, and you can select/deselect the "Enable command queeing" box.
