Rationalizing may be the wrong word to use.
This is the rationalizing I was refering to.
3. To devise self-satisfying but incorrect reasons for (one's behavior).

It wont be better. Actually alittle slower due to clocks.
There are 2 benefits tho as well. 1 Card solution. And 300W vs 2x195W.
Lets not forget cherry picked low-leakage high quality GPUs.
Over at [H] Kyle said that in their talks with Nvidia
1300MHz was thrown around more than once while discussing this new GTX 690's overclocks.
So move along ppl, nothing to see here, we have a winner![]()
Although native AO will arguably make the game look better on NV cards.
I realize that.Dual-GPU cards are just SLI/CF on a single board, so the upside is it only takes up two slots in your motherboard.
Fastest single card. Fastest single GPU.
nV is back, and with a vengance.
They've got one chip with dubious availability. AMD has had their lineup out and available and nVidia has managed to produce a single GPU. It's a good chip, but I'd hardly claim some sort of major victory.
The AMD fanboy is strong here. I'm more than happy with my 2 GTX680's but considering stepping up to 690's just for the hell of it...
AMD is looking good too. All it would take is a "4890" type card right now to regain the single gpu crown.
While this is very true, keep in mind the hd4890 was in fact a different chip than what powered the hd4870. It had 3 million more transistors, and was 16 mm^2 larger. ALSO, and this is very important, the hd4890 came out 10 months after the hd4870.
So yes, all they have to do is release a "4890" type card, but it's not always as easy as it sounds.
Seems USA is the only place fighting for availability, don't let that spoil your downer though mate!
Jees, the negativity that goes on with a Nvidia card release is unbelievable!
A 4890 type of card can surely beat the 680 but don't forget the BigK is waiting to be unleashed as well![]()
Have you checked 680 vs 7970 pricing here? What do you suppose the 690 will cost?
Cheapest in stock 680 on pricespy = $899nzd (inc GST)
Cheapest in stock 7970 on pricespy = $746nzd (inc GST)
This might have something to do with them still being available?
I like how you blame it on nVidia negativity. Didn't you read all of the negative perf/$, perf/new gen rants when the 7970 was released? I think there's plenty of negativity to go around.
It doesn't change anything about nVidia failing to show in most segments of the market on 28nm. Latest rumors put the 660's 2nd half of 2012 and all talk of BigGK (GK110?) has dried up.
Serious question: Has BigGK even taped out yet? I haven't heard that it has. I guess we have to define "waiting to be unleashed".
Halo cards like 690 are never ever good bang for buck. They are meant to show the engineering prowess.I for one always supported 7970's pricing because i thought AMD was losing the premium touch.

I'm not even talking about Bang/$. I was responding to the statement the nVidia is back with a vengeance. I only said that they've only released one chip while AMD has rolled out all 3 of theirs. To me it shows they are still having issues executing on a new process. Too early to claim any major victory.
Then it was stated, by a fellow NZ resident, that the shortage was limited to the US. I'm not interested enough to do a worldwide survey, but checking here in NZ, I pointed to what I believe is the reason they are available here. There's a big price premium ($150NZD ~$123USD) that would make most people opt for the 7970.
Don't misunderstand me. The 690 looks like an awesome piece (This thread is about the 690.). It exudes quality. It looks to me that instead of releasing a budget built dual gpu card they beat the likes of Asus to the punch and released their own "Mars" card. It wouldn't surprise me if it was very limited availability and they sell everyone they make.
Sometimes people let their passion get in the way of the fact that these companies are out to make money. They sell as much as they can for as much as they can.
I think you misread that, blame on nv negativity?, that was a shot at the negativity against nv!
As you say, we always pay more here for nv!, but a far as availability goes, it's the states, not everywhere else. You can't blame nv for retailers prices
