nvidia gtx 570 and asus p8z68-v

Been stumped for days. Just picked up the above items and can't get them to work:

Anyway, here is my issue. I ordered a nvidia 570 video card. It's not being detected in device manager, it's hooked up properly because the fan is spinning. I have it in my primary pci-e16x slot. Drives cannot install because it doesn't detect applicable hardware when attempted both via included CD and going online to download them. When attempting to manually add device via device manager, it only comes up with Intel graphics adapter. Does not recognize nvidia CD for that purpose either, as no applicable hardware.

I have two pci-e connections coming off power supply directly to video card. They are 6 pin PCI-E with the option for 8 (seperate 2 pin connector) the video card accepts a 6 pin. The video card came with PCI-E to molex 4 pin connectors, why i don't know. However, I have nothing on my motherboard or psu that would accept a 4 pin molex.

If I run the card just off the motherboard without pci-e connections the fan goes into hyperdrive.

I have an asus p8z68-v pro motherboard and Corsair professional hx750w PS

in bios i have initiate graphic adapter to pcie/pci and i have disabled igpu multi-monitor.

I tried using my old video card, a radeon hd 5850 and it's the same exact issue. Leads me to believe it's something with the motherboard.

I'm at a loss, any help would be appreciated

That is your first issue to solve.
You have the onchip-graphics disabled correctly in the bios.

You should have video output when monitor is plugged into the card.

So, whatever you use to hook the monitor to the video card, set your monitor to for input. ie: DVI , HDMI or whatever

Also, that 4pin molex is just an adapter for older PSU's you dont need it.

Shut down pc and hook monitor to the card and start pc, you should have video during post.

If you switch the monitor cable while in windows, it may not work if you have Virtu installed and IGP disabled in the bios.

Started computer with monitor plugged into card. No video. Did it again with second DVI slot on card, no video. Swapped from card to motherboard input - got the "sound" windows gets when it recognizes new hardware, monitor came back online no problem.

Monitor automatically cycles through all connections (HDMI / Digital / Analog) when it cannot find a signal. It did that to no avail, manually switching to digital, nothing.

Ok, then at least try enabling the on-chip graphics in the bios, then start windows and see if windows detects your 570.

OR

If you can hear pc post beep and it posts when monitor plugged into 570 card, keep hitting the del key on startup until you're sure the pc has posted and youre sitting at the bios screen "blind".
Then let monitor try to detect video from the gtx 570

What type of cable are you hooking the 570 to the monitor with?
DVI. VGA, HDMI?

What monitor do you have?

EDIT: Just read a thread where someone had a similar issue and clearing the CMOS worked.

If nothing works to at least get the card detected, try a different PCI-E slot, just to see if its just the pci-e slot on the motherboard is bad.

I have a samsung ps2770 monitor connected via DVI cable.

Cleared CMOS and restarted with monitor attached to video card, nothing and still nothing appeared in device manager.

Enabled IGPU and IGPU multi monitor, still no change with restart of monitor connected to both inputs. Nothing in device manager.

Swapped to pci slot 2, nothing. pci slot 3 the card does not fit.

PC has no reaction in terms of beeping with the video card. It beeps when i insert/remove the DVI connection to motherboard.

Sigh.

Sounds like the output on your card may have crapped out.

Have you also tried different cables? Or do the same cables provide video from onboard but not from dedicated GPU?

These cables worked fine on previous setup (I just replaced ram, cpu, motherboard, gpu)

My other card, when inserted creates same issue as this card. That led me to believe the cables myself, but it doesn't make sense.

Oh I reread the thread. I know it seems like a long shot, but perhaps all the pci slots in your mobo are bad. Do you have another mobo you can test on? Or know someone that will let you throw the GPUs in their computer?

Sorry to leave ya hang there, real life gets in the way of my pc time sometimes....LOL

Yeah, if the card isn't getting detected in any of the slots, you either have a motherboard with all bad PCI-e slots or two defective video cards.

Either one would be a rare occurrence, so no wonder its had you stumped for awhile.

You need to confirm the video card is good with a different mobo or confirm your mobo is bad with a video card freshly pulled from another pc that is working.

I guess it could also be possible the card isnt getting enough power, but they usually throw an error beep code when there is no power connectors plugged into the card or if they're not getting enough power.

a corsair hx750 shouldnt have problems supplying the power. then again you shouldnt have all bad slots or 2 bad video cards either.

You should try and find another way to test your mobo and GPUs, ie a known working GPU to your mobo and a known good slot for your GPUs.

Soooooo, twist.

I pulled out everything in the way on a whim, and installed it in the third pci slot.

It works. Which means, I would think my first 2 pci x16 slots are dead. Which is fun.

On top of that I have a dead sata slot (didn't detect hard drive until I switched it arbitrarily from like sata 4 to sata 5)

Also the little 2 pin cable that makes the power button turn the computer on doesn't work either. So i have to physically power on via the motherboard (which is now blocked by the video card in pci slot 3 which means I can't turn computer on without removing video card, fun)

Seriously, do NOT buy this motherboard. What a joke. I have different motherboard on the way now, and this is getting RMA'd and i'm never buying ASUS again. I guess their quality has taken a crap. Rebuilding a computer twice because of a hardware error is garbage.

Really appreciate the help though, sorry to waste your time along with my own.

Sorry to say, glad to hear you got it solved.
Sounds like your board has some serious issues.

I actually already own the Asus p8Z68-V Pro, and mine has no issues.

But if you go looking for an alternative , i have an ASRock Z68 Extreme 4 also and its a great board too.

Damn dude, your board got the short end of the QC check. Glad you at least solved it though.
