nvidia gts/gtx vs ultra release for g92

im anxiously waiting for the g92
but i was wondering
if my memory is correct
nvidia first releases the gts/gtx versions
then later releases the ultra version
and that gts < gtx < ultra

i think for the 8800 the gts/gtx were released last november
and the ultra was released last may to counter the r600

my question is this
assuming what is stated above is correct
is this pattern normal for nvidia?
will there be a 9800gts and 9800gtx release this november
and a 9800ultra release 6 months from then?

but who cares anyways, nobody waits for the ultra, and almost nobody buys it. the GTX is the card to grab.

if you are willing to wait 5-6 months for a 10% increase in performance, go right ahead. everyone else will be enjoying their GTX while you wait.

Naw, it's exactly as he said. I couldn't think of a bigger way to waste money than plop down near $800 for an ultra card when a GTX can be had now for $300 cheaper. Almost 80% or so price increase for 10-15% performance increase? Only people who don't want to send their kids to college or those who are very loyal to Nvidia would even consider doing such a thing.

The GTX is indeed, the card to get. May the new one be released tomorrow.

he is so right, i back him up on this
if you wait 6 months for the ultra
you would then be telling yourself to wait another 6 months for the next gen card
then another 6 months for the next gen ultra
then another 6 months for the next next gen
then another 6 months for the next next gen ultra
and so on
it would never be worth getting a card ever
because you should just be waiting another 6 months

catch up my man, i've had my striker since feb and my sli 8800gtxs since november last year, I'm getting g92s.

catch up to what? it isn't certain that the g92 will be the GTX flagship.

If 2 GTX's can't (stressing capability) handle your gaming experience for atleast another year, then WOW!

Then again, with a 2560x1600 resolution, there might be a game before a year's time that takes fps down below 40 even in SLI. Not sure what video game developer would be that stupid to release a game like that though.

Not me (well, aside from nVidia driver issues but those affect the entire G8x line).

Games like Bioshock and Call of Juarez really demand every ounce of performance and I don't like to resort to overclocking to get it.
