Video card company? Like eVGA or BFG? Or are you talking about a semiconductor company?

Nvidia changes GT200 NDA date
One of the more interesting parts reads:
From: Philip Scholz [mailto😛Scholz@nvidia.com]

Subject: IMPORTANT - Revised launch date: D10U (GeForce GTX 280 & 260)
Importance: High
All,
Please note the new launch date (pulled in by 1 day to align with additional Corporate Marketing initiatives): June 17th.
There are no other changes to this launch ?just the 1-day date change.
Please note there are ***2 embargo dates*** for this part:
1) Channel Customer Embargo: June 3rd, 2008 (06:00 PST |14:00 GMT)*
2) Consumer/Press Embargo: June 17th, 2008 (06:00 PST |14:00 GMT)
* Channel Customer Embargo (June 3rd, 2008): To ensure there is no disruption of your current products in the channel, we are imposing an embargo for discussing these new products with your other etail, distributor and retail Channel Partners; this is the date NVIDIA will begin discussing with these Channel Partners.
PLEASE MAKE A NOTE OF THIS NEW DATE AND LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.
Thank you
Phil

Make a new topic if so desired.
Just as i had to mention in the HD 4000 series thread, please don't take things way off topic, as this thead (like the AMD one) is for discussing the upcoming cards, not arguing over DX10 vs. 10.1, etc.
Thank you in advance.

Has to beat 80 pages of nvidia will be faster than amd and if not they will release a faster version........ but amd may be able to compete in the value market....... I have inside information but I can't divulge 😉

Performance numbers`..don't know about these
Vantage-scores on Xtreme-profile (1920x1200 4xAA)
GeForce GTX 280 41xx
GeForce GTX 260 38xx
GeForce 9800GX2 36xx
GeForce 8800 Ultra 24xx
Radeon HD 4870 XT 26xx
Radeon HD 3870X2 25xx
Radeon HD 4850 Pro 20xx
Radeon HD 3870 14xx
Only 7% difference between GTX 280 and 260? Well I know this Vantage doesn't test gaming performance, but still

Did you read the thread? It wasn't really about DX10.1 in the GT200, it was a conspiracy theory that Microsoft removed DX10.1 features from DX10 to benefit Nvidia... It touched briefly on whether DX10.1 would be included in GT200 or not, but mostly it was just conspiracy theory and how it was wrong for MS to remove DX10.1 features from the shipping DX10.
That was the off topic part.

1. physx for cuda should release at the same time so SP should matter.
2. the GTS has smaller bus, less SP, underclocked, and a few other shortcomings, it was not a "trick" by nbvidia AND reviewers to convince anyone of anything.
3. the GTX 260 has a smaller bus, so it will suffer more on very high res, on multi GPU, and when AA/AF is enabled.. in other words, the performance gap widens the more "high end" things you try to do with it.
As long as you are doing mid range stuff with it, it is indeed very close to the 280. A really ingenious design principle.

If 4870s scale at that applike 3870s, the score would be 46xx.
At that point your question would be:
"Is 12% higher performance at this app worth the pitfalls of a multicard rig?"Most notably that not all apps scale 78%, or even at all, and in those apps you'd be significantly slower at reputedly similar cost.

1. No, any phyx game out today, and any in development, will all work with phyx cuda as if it was a physX card with no changes needed to the game. And the drivers enabling it are supposed to be released on the same day as the G200
2. Much less of a compiracy, and more of an oversight... In crysis the SP DO matter a whole lot, and it was just assumed that more and more games will be extremely shader heavy. But most aren't.
3. Yea, that is the point. It is neutered in such a way that it is very close in low end tasks, but falls behind on high end tasks. Making it a much more desirable part, while maintaing the 280s supremacy (most high end users would get a GTX instead of an Ultra, I doubt any high end user will get a 260)
R700 will crush the GT280 in just about every conceivable benchmark and likely cost less. ?
G80 is not going to be a converged shader unit like the ATI R500/XBox360 or R600, it will do things the 'old' way. In any case, NV is heavily downplaying the DX10 performance, instead shouting about DX9 to anyone who will listen. If the G80 is more or less two 7900s like we hear, it should do pretty well at DX9, but how it stacks up to R600 in DX9 is not known. R600 should annihilate it in DX10 benches though. We hear G80 has about 1/3 of it's die dedicated to DX10 functionality.
In any case, the G80 is shaping up to be a patchy part. In some things, it may absolutely scream, but fall flat in others. The architecture is looking to be quite different from anything else out there, but again, that may not be a compliment. In either case, before you spend $1000 on two of these beasts, it may be prudent to wait for R600 numbers.
