nvidia gt 440

its just a 430 with faster clocks and memory. it still has only 4 rops and 16 tmus so its not suited for gaming above 1280 and even then it struggles in many games. using two of these in sli would be beyond silly anyway as a single gtx460 can be had for cheaper than two of these and will blow them away.

yeah I looked at the 430s specs and there about the same. what a shame i had high hopes for the 440.

seems like nvidia loves to was money on remaking the same card over and over.

AMD does the same thing too with their low end cards. sometimes just one small change and they give it a higher number.

Except NV already released a GT440 OEM, and then released this pile of crap.
The GT440 OEM isn't actually anywhere near as bad, because it has 144 shaders and 192-bit memory bus.

So, if you see an OEM PC with a GT440, it might be acceptable, or it might be terrible. If you see a retail GT440 it will be terrible.

i realize i never kept up with gpu market enough to notice

Gotta feel bad for ati and nv. intel just flooding the market with that igp trash.

i dont have alot agienst igps other then they seems more logical on low end cpus, not high end cpus like i5 and i7.

That gt440 OEM card sound more interesting.

Here are the main features of the GeForce GT 440:

•GPU: GF106 @ 594MHz / 40nm
•Shader processors (CUDA cores): 144 @ 1189MHz
•Memory: 1.5GB or 3GB of GDDR3 at 800 or 900MHz real speed, 192-bit
•TDP: 56 watts
•OpenGL 4.1, Direct3D 11, OpenCL 1.1, PhysX, CUDA support
•2-way SLI support

I want to overclock that card!!!!!! :awe::thumbsup:

Really, that OEM card with its low clocks and gddr3 memory might not be all that faster then the retail model?

😀 It's threads like this that makes me glad I joined this forum.... otherwise I'd be suckered into buying this card for gaming...^_^

Yea the Gt240 with DDR5 is a better card than this for gaming. The only thing the GT440 has over the GT240 is DX11 and furmi base.

I want to put a low powered card in my smaller comp for watching movies, image editing and playing warcraft 3 @1440x900. but they just seem to expensive, the 5670 is around $80 but im cheap and dont want to go over $60 for it.

im thinking gt 220 or hd5570 might be good but i dont know much about the smaller cards and how powerful they are.

You can get the GT240 with DDR5 for under $50 AR many times. Right now there is not one at newegg but some go on sale and has a rebate at least once a month.

I bought 1 when it was cheap AR and have it in my HTPC pushing my 1080p projector.
Quiet and very low power draw.

Not sure if you live near a microcenter or just want it shipped but they have 2 GT240 with DDR5 for $40 AR

http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0322506

Shipping is only $6 for the 2nd card so that will still be under $50 after rebate

wow that sounds good even though i dont like rebates but i think i will give it a try.

no microcenter here, I will keep watch over new egg or tiger direct for good rebates.

edit - so who handles the rebates microcenter or manufctures ?
