Next time...read you link, before posting.

Nothing in that link is about GK110....it's all GK104...nice own goal.

So nVidia focused on graphics instead on compute and now this is a problem? The last time i checked even AMD can't beat them with equal weapons. So why would a bigger GK104 with more bandwidth not enough?! o_O

Because the 680 is already losing by 25+% in some settings in some games. Think 1600p+, OGSSAA (Sleeping Dogs, Witcher Ubersampling etc.). I somehow doubt it will get better with future titles. They need much higher bandwidth and much more shaders to really win in every scenario.

And has nothing to do with the "problem" described in the article.
Losing to a card with 16% more compute and 37% more bandwidth should be normal...

    Question is:
Is it only due to bandwidth? How bandwidth dependent are the GTX680 and the 7970 GE really? 0%, 100%, something in between? AMD has been quite strong at high resolutions ever since HD4870, compared to Nvidia that is. What magic sauce are they using?

There are games / benchmarks which need bandwidth: Batman:AC, Alan Wake, Max Payne 3 (some scenes),Metro2033...

In these games a GTX680 with 37% more bandwidth would be much faster. I guess over 10%. I get 20% more frames in Batman:AC with 8xMSAA thx to 20% more bandwidth...

Could you post some numbers please with stock and overclocked memory? I've been looking for such values for a long time now but couldn't find any. Do you have all those games you listed?

I assume you said this a bit tongue-in-cheeck, but I would actually like to see that for both Kepler and GNC.

A pity no sites (AFAIK) ever do exactly that: select a constant core clock and see the effect of memory bandwidth. Like some sites do for CPU scaling in gaming reviews. I guess the results would not be of much interest to gaming but for people on VC&G they would of great interest just need some volunteers - sorry but I can't join in since I only have an old 5770:biggrin:

I don't know that expression, I was serious if that is what you mean.

Yeah, some volunteers would be nice. Maybe one should open a separate thread?

I can post some benches when I get home with the vram at stock and then overclocked.

Kids these days, always hostile and always ready to beat down others to further inflate their already enlarged egos.

Look at the chart again and it is not talking about the external bandwidth that is available to the gpu.

And it still have nothing about GK110.
    GK104 != GK110

Can't wait until the GK110 talk stops, its getting old and so is the chip. By the time its out the performance will probably be mehh. I think gk104 is a great efficient chip and I really can't see GK110 beating it by 50% since GK110 was said to be running at lower clock speeds.

Lower clocks yes. But 87.5% more ALUs and TMUs (except bandwidth, which is 50%) at 15 SMX.

You do realize you have control over which content you decide to consume, right?
