NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti To Cost Around $650 To Rival R9 290X

Thanks to Sweclockers, we know atleast know that the GeForce GTX 780 Ti as our previous speculation would end up around the $650 range while the Geforce GTX 780 would receive a price cut. Sources close to Sweclockers say that NVIDIA will price the GeForce GTX 780 Ti around the same price range as the GeForce GTX 780 which retails at $650 and possibly lower through some retailers. But NVIDIA has plans to give the GeForce GTX 780 price cuts too so it can directly compete against the upcoming Hawaii graphic cards.

NVIDIA’s strategy is to give their GeForce GTX 780 a price cut probably after the GeForce GTX Holiday bundle expires late next month. NVIDIA will wait for the AMD Radeon R9 290 to launch and based upon its price give their GeForce GTX 780 a massive price cut to compete specifically against the Hawaii Pro card. Since both would be about the same in terms of performance, the one offering more value in the end would be deemed the winner.

I theorized the 780ti would replace the 780, at least for that position.

It just doesn't make sense to have a card between the narrow margin of the 780 and Titan.

Will this result in a trickle-down effect for lesser NV cards?

I'm interested in a pair of GTX650 Ti Boost cards. (Asus DC2)

Currently they are $149.99 with a 6% off promo code, and a $20 MIR (limit two).

So that drops it to around $125-130 with rebates and stuff, after shipping.

Was hoping that perhaps it would drop to $120 or $130 no-rebate, but perhaps that is a bit optimistic. The 650 Ti Boost seems like it competes with the 7790, perhaps a bit faster in some games. You can pick up 7790 1GB for $110.

I wouldn't expect another price drop for a while and it sounds like they already have you mostly convinced to buy their cards instead of the 7790 you mention. When I checked prices on Newegg and Amazon they seem roughly comparable with 650 Ti Boost 1GB vs 7790 1GB and 650 Ti Boost 2GB vs R9-260X 2GB. 260X has a $10 price advantage but no rebates.:

Been drooling over the 780 since it came out,now more so the 780ti. That reference cooler is pure geekporn and the performance from the 780 ti should be even more awesome.

price cut on the 780 after the gaming bundle promo ends that has not even started? lol real nice. and how does that make sense because the 780ti and 780 will have the same price then until the bundle ends. or do they mean a 780 price cut up front when 780ti launches and then another after the bundle ends? stupid to wait for the bundle to end as you could sell those games for more than the second price drop will be anyway.

Titan will be gone. The extra features won't be enough to convince people it's better than a faster and $350 cheaper GTX 780ti
