It's 60% faster. Pretty good upgrade if you can afford it.

Note that FTW edition may not overclock better than any other edition, but it does have fancy RGB lights.

Yea I just wanted to go evga since I heard their customer service is good and that is a huge plus for me even though I may never use it.

The EVGA standard ACX and Superclocked ACX offer similar performance at a better price. They have single-color white LEDs and a smaller heatsink (which is plenty effective).

Fair enough but they are like only 10 bucks cheaper. Also will I run it any major issues with performnance on a my stock 4670k?

My full review of the EVGA GTX 1070 SC is up, benching it against the 970, 980, and 980 Ti, stock and overclocked.

While its performance is pretty impressive, the power use is what really gets my attention. It uses far less power than a 970!
Very nice review I enjoyed reading that. Looks like an overall very improved 980ti.

The SC was $30 cheaper, but now it's out of stock, and the FTW dropped in price $10 (at least at Newegg). It's a pretty good deal at that price.

A stock 4670K will only hold it back in a few games. Crysis 3 at 1080p would be a prime example. It's not enough of a problem to suggest you upgrade to something less powerful, like a GTX 1060, which will only be about 20% faster than your card.

The 1060 to me is not worth it but I totally agree with what you are saying. I went ahead an overclocked the cpu to 4.0 lets hope it does not crash. The only true upgrade to me at this point is the 1070.

I wonder if this means yields in general are improving, which could lead to more supply, which could lead to MSRP?!

They presumably need to bin these things a little girlfor lower power operation, so collecting them from the word go. Supply will normalise at some point. If nothing else the initial spike in demand can't last forever.

I got my 1070 strix yesterday in the mail, installed it to my system and now testing at 2100mhz core, 9250mhz memory. Heaven 4.0 score is 2641, which is roughly 36% faster than my 980 strix 1525/7800.

So the 1070 just became more expensive in my country now going for $580. I might end up getting a 480 at this rate but I am not getting a reference one of those so probably a long wait for that as well.

Just ordered a 1070. EVGA model.

In stock. Price was $439. Used a $30 gift card I had kicking around to bring price to $409 shipped. Well within my ballpark. Very excited. Will be replacing a GTX950. System is also seeing a swap from the i3-6100 to the i7-6700. Sould be interesting all around! 🙂

You are in for a nice treat with that upgrade, congrats.

Curious, what display are you using?

I have a 27" Acer k272HUL. It's a rather lovely display for the price @ 2K with IPS. Been very pleased with it. Contemplating getting another to swap out my older TN HD panel I use for a second display.

Oh wow, going from a GTX 950 to a GTX 1070 is going to be huge for you. Modern games will be playable at 2560x1440, high quality settings.

I know. I'm kind of in denial about it since this whole build started months ago using just Intel HD530 graphics on an i3-6100. There I was impressed that it could play CS:GO on reasonable settings.

Now I have no justification NOT to start playing some serious stuff with this hardware.

I'm also excited about the spare parts piling up. My daughter is going to have a decent little machine with the i3 and 950 for schoolwork and Minecraft.

Thing is, the 950 and i3 combo was very impressive to me. DOOM ran smooth and looked great with the settings it automatically chose. But when I see HD video on YouTube of games like DOOM at 2k with max settings, my jaw drops.

The other remarkable thing to me is the power draw of this new architecture. You really don't need insane PSUs and fancy cooling systems at this level anymore.

I'm looking at a similar 25in 1440p display from Acer but it's a lot less than the one you have. $269 actually, is there a big difference you think?

Mainly the 2 extra inches of screen size. The one you linked is 25" but it has a nicer bezel. I got mine when it was on sale and think I paid just under $300. The K272HUL was on sale a LOT a few months back when I got it. I kept gravitating back to it for that reason. Was mainly looking for IPS, Displayport and 27 inches and this seemed to be the best price/quality with the best ratings. It also has VESA mount support, which is something I plan to use at some point.

Thanks for the input. I suppose if I do end up with that model I'll be looking at a 1070 too or maybe a discounted 980ti. Just haven't made my mind up yet.

Nice review, especially the solid writing. Too many reviews are just huge blocks of text. Good flow.

Your review is what compelled me to buy this exact card. I am especially pleased about the power efficiency.

Specifically (why did you link comments?)

Ryan Smith:
As for GTX 1070, things are a bit different. The card has all of the ROPs of GTX 1080 and 80% of the memory bandwidth, however what it doesn’t have is GP104’s 4th GPC. Home of the Raster Engine responsible for rasterization, GTX 1070 can only setup 48 pixels/clock to begin with, despite the fact that the ROPs can accept 64 pixels. As a result it takes a significant hit here, delivering 77% of GTX 1080’s pixel throughput. With all of that said, the fact that in-game performance is closer than this is a reminder to the fact that while pixel throughput is an important part of game performance, it’s often not the bottleneck.

Wrong link i already fixed it.

btw its really sad how NV capitalize on Monopoly. They will never ever do that if AMD have atleast something vs GTX1070.

GTX1070 will be 2048SP with 4xGPC if NV dont have MONOPOLY.That SKU even exist but NV sell it only in mobile segment.

Glad you liked the review! When I read your nice post, I went back and found a bunch of typos - how embarrassing! Thanks for looking past them!
