The Gigabyte G1 Gaming is often in stock at Newegg (around the same price) and it's super quiet. Looks like a solid choice.

Your card basically matches 2x Radeon RX 480 in Crossfire when OCed. It's a no brainer IMHO, great choice.

All set to buy the 1070 after the 480 reviews but man those prices. :(

I guess I will just have to bite.

That CPU is a severe bottleneck for a GTX1070 (980Ti) level graphics card unless you are gaming at 4K. Even then, the dips in minimum FPS will be atrocious. Your CPU is at best as fast (or likely slower) than an i7 960 4Ghz since the i5 2400 has maximum boost on 4 cores to 3.1-3.2Ghz and SB's IPC was nowhere close to 25% against Nehalem. i7 960 4GHz itself is a massive bottleneck for a GTX970 level cards (and similar), nevermind GTX1070.

You need a full system upgrade or get a discounted/used GTX970/980 (at the most) , or get an GTX1060 (or similar) and then do a full system upgrade next year.

GTX1070 (or 980Ti) requires a CPU as fast as 2600K @ 4.5Ghz, no less or CPU bottleneck is a virtually guaranteed. Even an i5 2500K @ 4.5Ghz isn't fast enough.

Yea the cheapest one I see on Newegg is $399 and that is the Gigabyte model. The asus model also seems pretty neat and they also have an OC Gigabyte version but that is $429. If I had a 1440p monitor now that would be what I would get right now.

But yea those prices are what they are.

I live in Pakistan, the 1070 has launched for $550 here but that is to be expected at launch. I depend on the average price of the 1070 decreasing in the US for it to become cheaper here. But I don't see that happening after the 480 flop.

I can buy a non warranty 1070 for $450 right now but I am gonna wait for the warranty versions to come below $500. This will be the most expensive component I have ever bought for my PC. The 1070 is certainly worth getting over the 480 for 1080p as well. The feeling of maxing every single game in existence would be awesome, the last time it happened was when I got the 8800GTS.

I would have sacrificed this "feeling" if the 480 was just a little bit better but as it stands it's just not very tempting. I halted my plan to buy a 390 at the last minute and after all that wait to end up with what is essentially the same card would not be the best upgrade feeling. :D

Buying a non warranty card is impossible now since ALL of them have it. So don't expect less than 475 in the worst...

Here in Peru is WORSE. the few 1070 on the stores are at not less than 10% less than the 1080....

Hopefully the dissapoint of the RX 480 will help to not to make the card skyrocket as expecting. Time to get one of them then :V. And it will cost 35% less than the 1060 which will be overpriced again....

The 480 will pretty much max any game at 1080p. If that's what you game on then you can save money. The 1070 and 480 are not supposed to compete they are in pretty much different brackets.

Only downside for me going with a 1070 is I just spent $500 or so upgrading my CPU, ram, and motherboard but that's not a big deal. The most important thing is I like to keep my cards a long time. Don't think I would do that with the 1070 seeing how nvidia moves on and doesn't offer support for cards once they get older.

I'm also unsure at what point i would get a 1440p monitor so im sticking with my 1080p Acer for now. So I'm just going to wait for AIB models of the 480 for now and if the 1070's somehow drop any price between them I would maybe consider one.

In order to get warranty in Pakistan I must buy the card from an authorized retailer, there is no official presence of any card manufacturers here so if you import a card then you are on your own. The $450 card I can buy is an imported one where the seller will only provide DOA warranty.

The 1080 has launched at $850 here so buying the 1070 at $550 is still not a terrible choice. But since I have a backlog of old games to play I am in no hurry.

And to be fair the $550 version is the Gigabyte G1 Gaming which is certainly one of the best 1070s available. I am hoping for other versions to hit at a lower price soon.

Well obviously the 480 will do a great job at 1080p but it won't max out everything you can see the reviews.

The point about the longevity would be more valid if we were comparing an AMD vs Nvidia card in the same performance bracket. Max OC vs max OC the 1070 is 60% faster than 480, that is a huge difference. At $380 the 1070 would actually have been on par with the 8GB 480 in price/performance. Buying a new gen Nvidia card almost at launch at least ensures as long a good driver support from Nvidia as you can get.

If the 8GB 480 shows up in my area for $250 and the 1070 continues to be at $500+ then I might change my mind. But I doubt I'll be able to get the 480 for less than $300.

In your case that makes sense. Hopefully the prices will drop somewhat. I'm counting on that too for myself as I'm giving this card to my brother when I build him a new PC.

Had they launched at $379 the rumor msrp price I probably would have got one by now. And for the gigabyte model are you talking about the red one or the regular one that shows up $399 here in US?

Yeah, I jumped the gun on the Zotac 1070 AMP that costs 70% more locally and 60% faster than the reference RX480, with the former having actual OCing, 2 year longer warranty, better idle/load power and infinitely better cooling and noise. And I'm betting 1070 prices would stagnate just like the 970 did, might as well buy and enjoy it early.

NV is easily the better deal as far as I'm concerned, and AMD should rightfully be quaking in their boots now if they can make a 1070 look good on value.

GTX 1070 is going to be a massive upgrade from your 7950. Congrats, man.

Anyway, NVIDIA really nailed it with Pascal. I am routinely impressed with the performance of GTX 1080 in the games I play.

That card is awesome. I may get it for my mITX build instead of the EVGA gaming 1070.

I had been planning to buy an RX 480, but after seeing the reviews I decided to go for a GTX 1070 instead. I just ordered a Palit 1070 Super Jetstream, which for some weird reason was the cheapest 1070 available at 470 euros, while FE's sell for 490-500, no idea why that's the case but I jumped on the offer.

Btw, anyone know what the difference is between Palit's Jetstream cards and their Gamerock cards ? All I could find is some vague mention that the Jetstream cards are supposed to be for OC'ing while the Gamerock cards are for gaming, but no idea what that means and no details on their website.

I managed to get my new Zotac 1070 AMP @ 300mm length into my Corsair 250D ITX case. It's a very tight squeeze, and requires removing the stock case front fan before installing the card, and flattening and bending the PCIE power connectors as much as possible, but at the end of the day it definitely fits.

Just a heads-up for anybody who wants to Google this info.

I was thinking about buying the Zotac Amp Extreme, but decided not to for this very reason :D

That card is seriously huge.

A lot of that stuff you see on the different versions of the cards is mainly for marketing. Some do come with oc already on them. You shouldn't have major issues if you want to overclock either.

I do find this odd but a lot of people seem to compare the 480 to the 1070. The 1070 is 100% more expensive but it's also 50% more powerful. They are in different brackets and shouldn't be compared to each other.
