or we can start with the Fury X last year for 650$ released 11 months ago vs the 1070.

"AMD's fastest, the R9 Fury X, is 14% behind" for 200$/270$ more money

and 2x the Vram at 8gb.

I think that's quite a leap from 11 months ago.
what do you think?

The good news if your an AMD performance buyer, you can now buy a 11 month old Fury x for 620$( lowest price on newegg) with no hdmi 2.0 and half the video ram, and nearly twice the power consumption of the gtx1070 for 200$ more.
I think that makes the gtx1070 a good buy, you?

Meh, I'm sure you will be able to find 1070s quite soon that only cost 15% more than what the 970 did back at launch (380/330 = 1.15).

Also you have to add about 14% to the price relative to when the 970 launched, due to the weakening of the Euro. Include that and the price should land at around €460 (relative to the 970 originally being €350).

I agree, but if AIB partners sell tens of thousands of 1070's for 400$, with no competition, prices may stay at 400$

The AIB partners compete with each other though. Sure if they are supply constrained, then the prices will probably remain high for a while, but if not then they should hopefully get down to $380 in the not so distant future (July/August perhaps?).

I dont understand the rush to buy the latest GPU on day 1. Regardless of price. I like to get a good feel for the cards by seeing them in users hands in forums over a few weeks before I buy. This helps in narrowing down the best of the lot, not to mention better prices for those who are patient.

I was looking mighty hard at your 230$ 8gb 290x last night .

I got as far as putting in credit card info on the EVGA site, but I did not try to process the order. Did you try to order it and it didn't go through?

If it didn't, the 290X can be yours for $230 (listed at $235, but you can have it for $230 as a reward for wishful thinking!). ;)

I guess the reason so many are comparing the gtx1070 to the 980ti is this?

How does the gtx1070 compare to the AMD duo card?
Is that whats its called? I know it was pretty fast.
I think it was 1,500$ and released a few months back.
Is it 3.3x's faster than a gtx1070?

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 comes at an MSRP of $379. This review covers the GTX 1070 Founders Edition, which will retail at $449
$379 will probably go down by year's end. nVidia is just milking their most loyal user base: sad, but true. Hell, they can afford this: great product and zero competition as of now.

EDIT:
The irony is, $449 makes $379 feel like a bargain when in fact it may be not. Good for them: FE is such a subtle way to cover up a possible overpriced MSRP.
