NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1070 Thread

Overclocking this 1070 is confusing. The boost is set to 1861 yet for some reason MSI afterburner and ungine valley report it boosting to 2075. So which is the correct reading?

I honestly haven't felt the need to oc my CPU but it is quite a bit better than my 2500k even if I don't feel it.

The 6700k is a little odd in that the gains from OC are so minimal one feels lazy about it. I haven't OC mine either as I actually have no idea how to do it lol so I am just too lazy in reading up on it and all that.

Off topic: Are motherboard auto OC software recommended these days?

My Mobo has a lot of oc options in bios. I watched a YouTube video of one guy describing each feature and he tested most of the auto oc options which proved to run stable. So it seems it depends on your Mobo and I would say if you have read reviews of one trying them out then they could be a safe bet. Obviously just don't automatically crank it up to the highest mode, just choose something in-between.

For the price of a new mobile computer with a GTX 10xx I'd say a free game is the least they can do... especially one that is probably going to be 10hrs long

Actually it's also available with the stand alone cards too starting today. Too bad I bought my card a month or so back.

Is the 1070 a good idea for right now? From what I read it doesn't go 4k well. I want to hook my PC up to a 4k TV. The 1060 is obviously not as fast but would it be worth it to buy a 1060 6GB now and wait a year or two for the 1070 series to do 4k very well. I am looking at 550 to upgrade to a 1070 card and new power supply. 1060 is going to cost me 300. It appears the 1060 can do VR gaming and 1440p if need be. I plan on keeping the card at least two or three years.

1080 is well out of budget.

Not insane. 1 year will likely give you a mildly faster P102 based thing (or maybe a 1080) at the 1070's current price point, 2 years time there'll be something a bit faster again from Volta.

1060's can kind of cope at 4k/early VR things, and maybe the 1070 doesn't give you enough to really destroy them. Your money/choice

This is making it hard not to buy one. I will buy the game anyways. And with 1070s already showing up for $400 or less that would effectively make it the price of a 970 when new. For me that kills every price argument against the card.

If you bought recently there have been reports of people getting the code from Amazon and New Egg. I got a code from a cancelled order of a 1070. Havent used it but will try next month when the game comes out.

So I managed 2.1Ghz stable at least so far it seems. Should be getting almost stock 1080 performance with these clocks.

You're NEVER going to get stock 1080 performance with an OC'ed 1070, the spec gap bewteen the two cards this time around (in contrast to 970/980) is too big. You can never compensate for the 1080's extra 640 shaders and higher memory bandwidth. The 1070 is a great card, but it will always be 20-30% behind the 1080.

Yes I am aware of that hence I said almost. 1080 is 20% faster reference vs reference.

AIB 1070 is 5-7% faster than FE out of the box and most of them get around 10-13% further boost so FE 1080 performance isn't inconceivable.

Still the same. I really don't see how this whole new notion of the 1070 being gimped has come into play with just a few odd benchmarks on a few sites. 1080 was 20% faster on day one and it still is no more no less.

Its just math.GTX1080 have 33% more SP and 25% more bandwidth.The gap is same or bigger than is GTX1080 vs TITANXP.

There is no notion of the 1070 being gimped, it is heavily cut down, yes, but not gimped. Otherwise I would never had bought it, it's the perfect 1080/entry 1440p card , but those are preliminary results, give it some time, the 1080 will distance itself from the 1070. Also the FE 1080 cards are good overclockers they might be noisy but they will beat out any AIB 1070 out there FE tax or not. The 1070 is not the value proposition like the 970 was back in the day. Had the 970 not been memory gimped it would have held its ground still today, alas the vRAM segmentation is costing it big time in modern vRAM heavy titles.

That's nice man right out the box. I still have to finish over clocking my card. Looks like it's a good looking card too. Was debating getting one of those when they were on jet.com.
