Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 Ultra -- 2d looks like crap on my CRT

Nocturnal

Lifer
Everything on my CRT when I had a dual monitor display looked like crap. Things were blurry as hell!!!11oneoneone.

What could be causing this? Does the 2d on the Geforce suck or is my monitor dying?

Try either a different card, or the monitor on a different computer to see if it's the monitor, if not, it's probably the graphics card and you might have to RMA it.

I borrowed a 5200 and my 2D looked washed out and dim I think the 5200 2D just isn't that great 🙁

That sucks. I thought the problem with sucky 2D on Nvidia cards was mostly past (not that they're up to Matrox or built-by-ATI levels, but they were supposed to be good). Oh well, I'm not planning to get a Nvidia card (or any card) soon anyway. :frown:

I was reading the half life 2 review last night, and was really glad i got my ATI card

i almost got a 4400 or 4600 (which would have been ok), but went for 9700 instead. I almost got the Nvidia, till i heard that the FX chips werent able to keep up.

Yeah, because the 4400 and 4600 are FX chips...

Your monitor's cable could also be to blame. And remember that it probably isn't the chip itself, it's probably how well the company that built your card...built your card. There's absolutly nothing wrong with Nvidia's 2D if the board is built well. Odds are on a super low end card like the 5200 they're going to take shortcuts.

That doesn't mean it was a bad choice. He had an odd reason but in the end he made the right choice. And the 9700 will lay a whippin on the 4600 anyway...

But yeah I have no idea what you have kept the card Nocturnal...seems like a waste

The problem is Nvidia isn't strict enough with there third party suppliers and doesn't force them to use good quality components. That why you see this problem all the time.

I say bs... the card may be defective. I have a 5600 ultra and mine is fine. Sometimes it can be the monitor or the cable. However if you used it before I would say it is the card and you may want to take it back for another one. Nvidia isnt that bad anymore. Actually i think they are better than their old ti series.

GUYS GUYS GUYS, I already took the card back. I bought a 9800 Pro for $100.00 more than I originally spent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
