Increasing ROPs to 24 (from 16) wont make any significant gains, I doubt they did that.

Knowing 7900GT is 24 pipes is a solace implying that 7900GTX could have more pipes. But Nvidia could have played a different game, same pipes in both the GTX and GT (ala 6800U and 6800GT) but different clock domains. GT clocking a good 200Mhz lower. All speculation ofcourse.

BFG 7900 GTX 512 to launch on the 9th of March

Nvidia . . . promised the systems to its partners and some samples will be delivered as soon as next week.

We know that 7900 GTX 512 is set to have a MSRP of $599 we don?t know why Nvidia priced this product cheaper, it makes us happy for the consumers but it also makes us wonder about the performance. The last flagship card was MSRP at $649. 99 resulting with at least 699.99 retail price at most of the etailers.

The minimum suggested retail price for Nvidia's upcoming 7600 card is $249.99 and this card is supposed to take over from 6800GS and to continue the tradition. ATI will fight this one with its X1800GTO priced at the same price point.

There are no limitations on the number of orders that you will be able to place so this might mean that Nvidia got the yields right. The only question that we need to answer is, are the cards clocked to 650 MHz only and have 24 pipes?

I sense that GTX is 32 pipes with similar speeds to the GT. Should be able to beat the x1900XTX, but shouldn't be a huge margin. I sense the margin that the 1800XT had over the 7800GTX

yeah i doubt they put 24 rops on that thing, thats alot of extra tranny-age and the rops dont get saturated anyway i dont think. nv did it with the 6600 it had 8 pipes and 4 rops

No. Look at the size of the GPU. it should be at least the size of the original G70 if it were to have 32 pipes. its just too small.

The specs of the Nvidia line are kinda funny. Hopefully these 7900's will be the same as the 7800 series in that there are hardly any manufacterer's used the suggested clock speeds... I don't get why NV doesn't just use a little highier core speed instead of having all theses companies have varying speeds.

It isn't bad at all, but it isn't exactly exciting to see NV re-releasing the 7800GTX with a die shrink and a new name. Then again, this isn't the flagship either... Hopefully, the 7900GTX 512 will be a bit more exciting.

You're right on. HDMI = video + audio so in order to have a true HDMI out the video card would need to be able to pull the sound and pass it through via the HDMI out. Problem is trying to sync the sound up with the video. Hopefully they've got it figured out.

So the cable goes from HD-DVD drive to videocard to where? Are new motherboards and soundcards going to be required too??? Sounds like one needs to build a completely new machine to use this HDMI crap.

You do realize that going from 130nm to 90nm would be a 100% increase in transistor count for the same surface area? Even if it is smaller you could cram more transistors into that space.

Edit: youre only talking about a ~25% increase in transistor count to go from 24 to 32 pipes. So you could still make the core substantially smaller and still increase the number of pipelines.
