nVidia GeForce 6600 (plain) vs. Radeon 9800 Pro

How does the nVidia 6600 (plain) compare to the Radeon 9800 Pro? Both have 8 pipes and the 6600 is much newer (and a little cheaper). One difference is that the 9800 Pro is 256 bit whereas I'm pretty sure the 6600 is just 128 bit.

Are there any benchmarks for the 6200/6600 yet comparing them with the 9600 Pro and 9800 Pro?

Any thoughts on 6200 vs. 9600 Pro an 9600XT ?

I've used the 9800pro and it will play every game out there well. It's a terrific card.

The 9600xt is decent, it will also play every game on the market but not as well. If you don't mind a little choppiness then 9600xt is a good value too.

I wouldn't recommend the 6600 or 6200 because you'd have to goto a PCIe motherboard. The motherboard will run you $110+ by its self. If you're willing to spend that kind of money you'd be better off getting 6600gt in APG ($200-$225)

Gamespot.com has a good review that deals with your exact question. I'll post it if I can find it.

The 9800pro is faster, the 6600 gets 36.5fps in aq3, the 9800pro gets 53.7, the 6600gt gets 55.6. I've heard that many 6600's can be oc'ed to close gt levels fairly easily though. The 6600gt is hardly "spanking" the 9800pro, it's only 2fps.

Both 6200/6600 are available in AGP.

The 9800P will be better as you crank up the resolution and AA and AF. Otherwise, at lower resolutions, the cards will perform similarly.

6600 plain is not being produced in an AGP model so there's no reason you should be attempting to compare unless you're planning on a PCI-e motherboard; which in that case, you shouldn't get only the 6600 if you're paying that much money for a PCI-e mobo to begin with.

Edit: Sorry, disregard the previous. There will be a 6600 AGP, though it's going to MSRP between $149-$199. It's supposed to compete with ATI's 9600XT, so the 9800pro should blow it out of the water.

6600 AGP available here:

Quite a bit cheaper than 9800s new...
