Nvidia G84 and G86 delayed

I'm looking into the future and I see... oh.. that's interesting.. the inq reports up to a 40% speed increase for R600 over G80. Apparently, driver support for the R600 is going "quite" well due to uh.. oh yes, AMD lending a hand. Unfortunately, yields are extremely low and you might have to pay a nice premium to get your hands on "DAAMIT"'s latest concoction.. although AMD is definitely helping with that! Uh.. what else can I pull out of my ass?

If this is true it's just because Nvidia is waiting to see what R600 will be and will tweak G84/86 accordingly.

Anyway you look at it, we are the losers! I'm sure there are a lot of people looking to buy mid level DX10 hardware. You know, the sub $200 kind

I have to toally agree on this one. They are just waiting to find out the details and then punce on them with the latest and greatest. Wow... not only is Intel putting the smackdown on AMD with procs, but now we have Nvidia putting a hurt on them!

I just want R600 REAL benchmarks SOON so I know if I should buy an 8800 or not! =)

Yeah I really want to upgrade to a new card. Maybe a mid lvl DX10 card or a fast discount priced DX9 card. Either way they need to come out.

I've never had a top-of-the-line card stay top-of-the-line for this long before. :p

I really hope R600 is good, if only to put some competition back into the business...

Is it a delay because NVIDIA had announced that date? Or is it a delay because the Inq pulled it outta their butt and would rather blame them for it.

While AMD has admitted to the R600 being delayed from a launch this year. The initial reports by the Inq that the R600 was due last December, I think are total BS. So AMD was already getting blamed for a delay that was based on a made up date.

Just like the R600, I will believe in the existence of a G84\86 when it's been benchmarked by the major sites and is ready to ship from Newegg.

I'm not following your reasoning.

The article states that there ***appears*** to be a bug and the launch ***may**** be a soft one, not that it will be delayed.

Of course the chance that this is at all accurate is about as good as R600's chance of being launched in Tunisia , Africa...

Wasn't the 8800 series supposed to be "delayed" according to the Inq? Something about resistors or something?

That turned out to not be a big deal, so I'm gonna sit on this one.

Some 8800GTXs WERE shipped with faulty resistors. There was no launch delay but people had to RMA their cards.

Read again

it will most likely delay the April 17 launch.

Note the speculation in that statement - just like the entire article is nothing but speculation - pulled from INQ staff's nether regions...

Given that the current dies are reported to hit 800mhz with ease and remain under 60 degrees celcius while doing so, if the is another respin, it would likely only be to introduce an even faster variant of what already exists. Such a card would likely do away with the need for 8800 GTS 320mb quite nicely.

I love it how Gstanfor takes issue with the Inquirer, but only if they're anti-nVidia.

Show me where I've agreed with them in the past (and if you think the africa thread provides such evidence, then your sarcasm meter is in dire need of repair)...

Then why no sarcasm in this thread?

Well it is the inquirer, so the story may not be accurate.

Yes, you were full of sarcasm in the Africa thread. What happened here in this thread? All out?

sarcatic enough for you? (too bad if it isn't - bring your own anti-INQ sarcasm to the thread if you miss it that badly...)

nvidia doesn't need a respin of its upcoming midrange anyhow, its already got enough performance to smash ATI out of the arena with enough force that onlookers will think they are witnessing a meteorite shower in reverse...

Why does this always come up about Nvidia? They sure took their sweet time "waiting" with the g70 refresh and the mid-range derivatives, and they still had slower cards. And yet I see the same speculation year after year that Nvidia has some monster cards just waiting in the wings. Where's that 32-pipe 700mhz g71 that was supposed to be waiting for the x1900's?

Its quite possible they had prototypes of such 32 pipe GPU. But it doesnt mean they didnt have other alternatives like a cut down G70 in terms of overall cost, heat, power consumption, GPU die size etc i.e the G71 we saw last year. I guess nVIDIA went for the right decision, and made quite abit of profit with their ability to produce so many G71s comapred to R580s. (hm, its was like ~300 (G71) vs ~150 (R580) per wafer)

Ill take the INQ rumour with a big grain of salt. Just dont make sense and doesnt line up with other rumours. The cards looks like their finished, and just stock piling them now. (Cebit did show quite a handful of 8600 series)

Gstanfor upon hearing the R600's possible African lauch:
A third world video card for a third world continent?

Now do you see the sarcasm that is missing in this thread? Or do we have to make the sentences color coded?

Oh, wait. That won't even work. (Anyone recall the AF thread where little Greggy showed us how to count color rings?)
