(Anyone recall the AF thread where little Greggy showed us how to count color rings?)
Oh yes, that one ranks right up there with "hardware has nothing to do with software".

But wait... the rings have nothing to do with hardware!!! :p

DaillyTech also has an article on the G84/G86 delay, but their take is that April 17 *is* the delayed date:

"NVIDIA's upcoming mainstream DX10 G84 and G86 cards would have been ready in time for a CeBIT launch. NVIDIA, however, decided to postpone the launch to April 17th for various reasons."

I guess we will have to wait a couple of weeks to know if the release will be on April 17 or not

LoL

Same old, same old. Do you ever develop a different vocabulary, or learn any new words?

Or do you just sweat above your keyboard all day while customers go in and out of your store, wondering what has got the owner so concentrated and moronically studious?

Perhaps instead of worrying about what some people think about a different company on a forum you should worry about what some people think about your company in your area. Not that your business couldn't be thriving, and I certainly hope it is. Afterall, such would only demonstrate how stupid people can still be successful.

Honestly, given nvidia's position of strength and Ati's floundering...they have no reason to rush out the refresh cards. Whether this delay is the result of some design problem or not remains to be seen, as well as if its really going to happen. However, holding back for strategic reasons wouldn't be an awful move here for nvidia.

I agree 100%. Currently they are owning the top of the graphics market with the 8800's. Sales appear strong and there really aren't any games out there right now that don't run well on it.

Once ATI is ready with there next card, I would expect nVidia to step in with their next offering.

Anyway you look at it, we are the losers! I'm sure there are a lot of people looking to buy mid level DX10 hardware. You know, the sub $200 kind

You're right. It'd be nice to see some midrange DX10 cards, but honestly, right now, are there any games out that require DX10? I'd like to see them get out the DX10 midrange offerings, but not if the next generation games that come out won't run well on that hardware.

Also, look at Nvidia's standpoint. No offerings from ATi right now makes it so they can charge higher prices. They don't want to flood the market with midrange cards just yet, because their profit margins get slimmed down. If they throw out an 8600 or whatever, what are they going to price it at, $200? Doesn't that put it below their high-end DX9 videocards? That doesn't make business sense. I think they'd want to clear out their inventory of high end DX9 cards before they put a DX10 midrange card on shelves.

DX10 is waiting on MS afaik. Both Company of Heroes and Supreme Commander were due to release DX10 paths via patches in mid-March. The devs stated their patches would follow a required DX10 update to Vista. Haven't heard any news regarding that in almost a month now...

Before I got to this part of the thread, I thought for once you weren't being a fanatic Gstanfor. Then I realized how idiotic that thought was when I got deeper into the thread.

The article states that there ***appears*** to be a bug and the launch ***may**** be a soft one, not that it will be delayed...Note the speculation in that statement - just like the entire article is nothing but speculation - pulled from INQ staff's nether regions...

Oh, wait. That won't even work. (Anyone recall the AF thread where little Greggy showed us how to count color rings?)

No sarcasm in him from this thread, just his usual trolling.

Precisely. And those b!tching and moaning about the state of nvidia's Vista drivers should realise nvidia has little real incentive to put effort into a Vista driver until M$ gets off its butt and officially launches DX10.

Hmm .. this would seem to contradict that statement somewhat ..

http://www.techshout.com/hardware/2007/...ified-dx10-drivers-released-by-nvidia/

How can you get WHQL drivers for an OS that's out, for hardware that's out, but yet it's not 'launched'?

Don't get me wrong, I think the 8800s rock, and Nvidia-based cards have always been great, other than the weak 5000/FX series. I just don't think you can drop the entire blame at Microsoft's door on this one. The fact of the matter is that there are loads of issues with the 8800 series running Windows Vista, and newer drivers haven't been able to completely fix things yet.

As far as real 'incentive' is concerned, I would presume (correctly, anyone?), that a company would want to greatly support the purchasers of their flagship products, starting first and foremost with complete and stable drivers for the common OSes.

That would have been a nice disclaimer to put on Nvidia products before people bought them.

You mean like this one:

These NVIDA Windows Vista drivers are under development. This version is not fully optimized for full 3D performance and may not include all available features available on different operating systems. NVIDIA, along with the industry, is continuing to update its Windows Vista drivers to ensure maximum performance on 3D applications and add support for features. These drivers are provided "AS IS." NVIDIA MAKES NO REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND WHATSOVER AS TO MERCHANTABILITY, COMPATABILITY, PERFORMANCE, APPLICATION OR FUNCTION, AND DISCLAIMS ALL SUCH WARRANTIES TO THE FULLEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW.

Who would have bought the cards, then?

According to Vrzone, 8600GTS will be ~25% faster than 7900GS and can oc up to ~800Mhz or more on the core

While we are talking vr-zone some may want to feast their beady little eyes on this article:

G84 & G86 Firmed For April Launch

GeForce 8600 GTS, 8600 GT and 8500 GT are all firmed for April 17th launch and card makers have already received revision A2 GPUs from NVIDIA for mass production. We can expect cards to reach distributors and retailers in 2 weeks time ready for mass availability in the market. The performance of the G84 and G86 cards are pretty ideal so far and card makers are satisfied. Using a Core 2 Extreme QX6700 processor, the 3DMark06 scores for 8600 GTS reaches 7K, 8600 GT is 5.9K while 8500 GT is 2.9K.

Yes. April 17th is the delayed date. We know. Originally supposed to be launched at CeBit.

What orifice did you manage to pull that from???

The opening post in this threade referenced this INQ article did it not? Which clearly states:
will most likely delay the April 17 launch

For your next trick I'd like to see you post up a credible link stating G84 & G86 would launch at cebit. We didn't even have a launch date for G84 & G86 prior to cebit.

I wish I had the benefit of a much better trick. ;)
So anyway, I had read somewhere (will search again) that Nvidia was originally intending to launch G84-86 at CeBit. And an intentional delay for April 17th (I would guess to coincide with any of ATI's product launches such as the supposed April 24th Africa launch). Seems like just a thunder stealing tactic at this point. And by the way, the only reason I mentioned any of this was because I read it prior to the comment. Nothing was pulled from anyone's nether orifice unlike the bile that springs forth from yours. :D

G84-86 held back

Prior to cebit the only thing you will find is that rumors said they *might* launch early to mid april. Rumors "confirming" cebit delays long *after* cebit actually happened are beyond useless. nvidia's widely reported low key presence at cebit was a very clear sign nothing major was going to occur there.

Mid april is about as early as it could possibly get for a nvidia launch in any case, with a date closer to may being much more likely based on nvidia's history.

Hey, if it's "that" important to you, well..... nobody ever cares what you think anyway.
