nVidia First Timer w/ New GeForce 3 Ti 200

Well, I have my new VisionTek Xtasy 6564 (GeForce 3 Ti 200) that I snatched up at Best Buy courtesy of the Hot Deals Forum...

However, all is not well... my games are crashing

Specifically, I am having "issues" with Dark Age of Camelot and Aliens vs Predator 2.

DAoC will crash to desktop fairly randomly in the middle of the game. Sometimes it lasts 5 minutes, sometimes it lasts an hour prior to crashing to desktop.

AvP2 single player just plain locks up midgame (or mid load, or mid title screen display) and shows nasty jagged lines, and then I need to CTRL-ALT-DEL.

I started with the 21.83 drivers that shipped with the card... did a complete wipe (I think) of my old Voodoo3 2000 card prior to installing the new GF3.

DAoC support boards suggested using the 22.50 drivers, so I wiped the 21.83s and installed 22.50 drivers... still no luck with either game.
AvP2 had one update that was available, but as far as I can tell, it is only to fix multi-player issues.

Any suggestions for nice stable/compatible drivers for this card?

Or any suggestions for what else I might try, short of format C: and reinstall everything...

I plan to try the complete uninstall / reinstall of the video card and drivers when I get home tonight, but if I am wasting time mucking about with crappy drivers what is the point?

I am using Detonator Destroyer (from www.guru3d.com) in addition to removing the Video Card from Device Manager.

Hope I'm not the blind leading the blind, but this helped me get through "out of memory" errors when trying to run 3dmark2001. (Out of memory error might be crashing your games) In the Geforce3 ti Tab you will see addtional properties. Open that and then set the "system memory for textures in PCI mode" set to 0 meg in both d3d and OpenGl tabs, per the on disk manual. (couldn't get d3d to stay at 0, so set it at 1). BTW, I only got one CD with my card, some talk about a 2nd CD with DVD software on it, what did you get?
Edit: I got a Rev B card, and 21.85 drivers on the CD.

I'm having trouble with 3dMark2001 as well.

Only one CD came with my card... not sure if it is a Rev B or otherwise.

Thanks, an update, after reading posts in diff forums, I tried upping my agp aperture size in the bios from 64 to 128. WOW. Went from 51xx marks to 57xx at default 175/400. My tip about sys mem didn't hurt, but bios setting really helped. I tried 256 bios setting, but had lockup in Nature, so set it back to 128.

I have the same card and am not having any problems in AvP 2. I am NOT using the drivers from the CD-ROM that came with the card, i just downloaded the ones from nvidia.com
The crashing could be a cooling issue, you have the card overclocked? you have good airflow in your computer?
I only got on cd-rom in my box, with a note to send something in for the DVD software.

Thanks for the tip on the AGP Aperature size... mine is set at 64 right now as well.

Looks like I have a few things to try out, maybe I'll make a dash for the door and get home early to start tinkering

I have not tried OCing this card yet, and probably won't.

Most of the problems I have had with video cards have came from leftover drivers not being removed completely .The Voodoo cards can be bad about that.

I just bought a Visiontek Ti200 as well. Used to have a 3dfx Voodoo5 5500. I haven't had any crashing problems, but then again I've only played a few games (Madden 2002, RTCW demo). But I second Freewolf above: I was very thorough about removing any instances of the Voodoo drivers on my computer before installing the Ti200.

Here's what I did...I first uninstalled 3dfx tools. Rebooted. Changed the display adapter to Standard VGA. Rebooted. Then I removed all instances of the words "3dfx", "Voodoo", and "Glide" from 1) the Registry and 2) all Files and Folders (well, not ALL instances; just the ones related to system files). I then removed the Standard VGA adapter from the Device Manager, shut down, removed the Voodoo card, and then installed the Ti200 card.

BTW, I did have one problem, but it was 2D-related. I had to change the refresh rate from Optimal to 85 Hz to stop my screen from doing the wavy thing.

Woot woot... thanks a bunch Flatbroke!

I'm running 3DMark2001 now (wouldn't run before.)

Goes to show you how RTFM can help... even if the manual says to use zero, and zero is not an option... had to set to 1 MB for both OpenGL and D3D.

Also, set the AGP Aperture to 128... may tinker with this some more and see how she goes.
