I love the look of it and all the options it gives you ( it makes me hot) but when its turned on internet seems so slow and sometimes pages dont completly load. Also even other apps with ports fowarded dont seem to work .

I have heard praises about this thing but now it shows up short. Any ideas.

Whats the general feeling on Nvidia firewall (DFI lan boy btw)

You probably need to play with the configuration. You are probably blocking stuff you dont need to if your webpages wont load.

Theoretically the nvidia firewall should be faster than software ones because its hardware accelerated.

I would google some stuff on it, I'm sure there's tips on configuring out there.

yeah i messed with it for a while, seems cool but slows everthing down i found some posts talking about how horrid it is noone seems to like it and it is a software hardware is a selling point i read

I uninstalled it just because I didn't like half a dozen programs starting when I started the computer. I like to run a minimal install to avoid potential issues. I dont even have dvd player software installed, I use VLC.

I figure incoming stuff is blocked well enough by my router, and outcoming, well I like to think I know enough to know when something is screwing around on my computer and sending outgoing stuff. I do run a virus checker as well, so hopefully that would pick up any trojans. In my entire time of using computers I had a trojan only once, and that was my own fault and an obvious one. Never had any viruses (unless you count spam emails that get deleted without opening in a program that is NOT outlook express).

Just to clarify; in threads like this there are 2-3 posters that makes honest statements about their feeling but there is probably 50 people that look at the thread and some might be put in danger.

Not only that you need a software Firewall but you need AntiSpyware, and Antivirus as well.

Do they slow down the processing of the TCP/IP stack?

Yes they do because every thing that need to be done by the computer IRQ processing power and slows it down.

Is the slow down is functionally significant?

If you computer Hardware/Software is in good shape and optimized the ?Slow Down? is functionally Not significant. Any one who experience significant slow down while using reputable protection should take good look at his system rather than to take is guards down.

The Router?s NAT Firewall does not block any thing that comes in from any of the sites (and the collateral 3rd party embedded links) that you visit.

Unless a person happen to have some kind of Alien type Precognition all the claims that I know what I am doing are ridiculous at best.

You do not know what comes in the Internet traffic?s codes unless it is examined, which is what Software Firewall, AntiVirus, and Anti Spyware application do.

Log with your Router and no software safety protection to a Triple X site and see what would happen.

I know that every body here is very decent and does not log to Triple X sites, however many normal sites have similar practices only that it is not as intensive.

Be well and prosper.:music:

Yes all the above is pretty important. A NAT router can only block unsolicited packets. If you visit any website, a router will not block bad things like spyware/viruses/adware/malware, etc from that website because its considered solicited since you are visiting the site. Thats why I run kaspersky anti virus. Also as the previous reply said, its a good idea to run some anti spyware stuff, even if its just the MS antispyware beta program. I use ad-aware and spybot S&D occasionally to make sure I'm clean. If you notice any change in your system behavior, run those immediatly!
