Nvidia Fermi is recommended for Metro 2033 game

This game is gonna be a graphics hog and ram hog. Wow time to upgrade.

Minimal system requirements: Metro 2033
- Dual-Core CPU (Core 2 Duo or better)
- DirectX 9, Shader Model 3 graphics card (Geforce 8800, Geforce GT220)
- 1 GiB RAM

Recommended system requirements: Metro 2033
- Quad-Core or 3.0+ GHz Dual-Core CPU
- DirectX 10 graphics card (Geforce GTX 260)
- 2 GiB RAM

Optimal system requirements: Metro 2033
- Core i7 CPU
- Nvidia DirectX 11 graphics card (Geforce GTX 480 and Geforce GTX 470)
- As much RAM as possible (8 GiB+)
- Fast HDD or SSD

3D Vision requirements: Metro 2033
- Nvidia Geforce GTX 275 and 120 Hertz display
- Nvidia 3D Vision
- Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 7

The lack of a reference to AMD's discreet graphics offerings is more likely due to the game being a TWIMTBP game than anything else.

Game looks ok, hopefully it doesn't suffer the same fate of most of the recent console ports.

Bingo.

Digital Foundry: Does all the hard work you've done in getting 4A to run on console translate back into more efficient processing on the PC? What sort of PC hardware would be required to match Xbox 360 performance?

Oles Shishkovstov: The PC side definitely became more and more optimised as a side effect. For example we don't need as much system memory as other PC-only games. Anything above 512MB RAM with DX10/DX11 code-path on Windows 7 would be enough. DirectX9 uses system memory backing store for almost all GPU resources, so you should add around 256MB to avoid page-file swapping.

The CPU side is slightly more problematic. Because the system is heavily multi-threaded, we need at least two hardware threads for "smooth" gameplay. The CPU performance doesn't matter that much, except on a few selected scenes during the whole game as long as it is relatively modern architecture (not Intel Atom!) and has more than one core.

As for the GPU, the console brothers have very little influence on the PC version, if any. The shaders are very different. The pipeline is very different as well. I mean they are very different - they just look similar and utilise the same art content.

Looks like that nvidia is having wet dreams of 'buying' hot game that works only on nvidia hardware. Is that next we can expect from them?

Very pathetic of game developers being ok to do that trash. It lists no AMD Cpu and no Ati/AMD GPU. But it sure has nvidia in the base, recommended, and optimal specs. Thats just sad of the developer and if nvidia pushed/encouraged/paid for that its definitely shows how far they will go to rip off customers by making it seems like it has to be a nvidia card to run... I absolutely Hate greed

PS: I would like for someone to contact the developer through email/forum or whatever and ask them 'why my Radeon 5870/5890 card is not listed and would it be powerful enough to run the game' or even better 'if I need to have a nvidia card to run the game'.

Try to run the game with physx and/or 3d vision turned on and get back to me on how well your 5870/5890 handles it. ...Hence the reason for Fermi to run the game "optimally".

Fair enough, but doesn't explain why it lacks any mention of any ATi card in any of the listed settings including minimal and recommended. A bit too strange considering how there is zero user base on dx11 nv hardware (duh!) and 48x0 series have done so well.

Why doesn't it mention ATI? Because ATI didn't pay. ATI has payed for plenty of game endorsements.

???

Dirt 2
System Requirements*
Intel Processor - Core i7-920 Quad 2.67GHz
AMD Processor - Phenom II X4 905e
Nvidia Graphics Card - Geforce 8800 GT
ATI Graphics Card - Radeon HD 4770
RAM Memory - 3 GB
Hard Disk Space - 10 GB
Direct X - 9

System requirements are not an endorsement, they are information given to the not-so-well-informed customer so they know if their video card can handle a game. They should put both nVidia and ATI cards there.

If these requirements are accurate and the game is worth playing, then I think it will drive people to upgrade their hardware -- Kind of like what Crysis did. You can say all you want that Crysis sucked, but it still is the benchmark for today's Performance PC's. I believe the saying is " But can it run Crysis".

Article I read said will play perfectly fine on an xbox 360. physx and dx11 will add a few visual enhancements like motion blur. So likely another crappy port, but I hope they prove me wrong!

Physx is just a stupid gimmick that hasn't given us any real reason to look at it. On paper it's cool but no good games use it well enough to warrant one card over another.

People keep saying that but I'm sure when Batman:AA came out PhysX support must have moved a few Nvidia cards. All it takes is 1.

As I said in the other thread (PC gaming forum) normal joes don't know how good their hardware is compared to what. One of them might look at that list, see geforce 8800 and assume his radeon 9600 pro is good enough or something. But mostly if they look at the requirements and they don't see anything that they can compare to what they have they won't buy it. It's not like they have to put an exhaustive list of every card on the box but they need to include every family of card that will work.

And I think it's pretty stupid of them to recommend a card that nobody has even seen yet(apparently they haven't even finished the reference design PCB and cooler yet) and that we don't even know what the final specifications or performance will be.

It's a DX11 game that recommends you use a video card that's not out and won't be out for the launch of the game. One that you probably won't be able to buy for a while after they do launch it at the end of March. And they don't even bother mentioning the only family of DX11 ready hardware on the box?

It's a shame because joe schmoe with his brand new HD5770 could have seen the box with a big "works in DX11 with Radeon HD5XXX and geforce gtx4XXX video cards" and bought the game because of that.

Well I'm sure but it doesn't use Physx great at all. It just turns off stupid things that you can do with any card/cpu to make you think you need an Nvidia card. Look at Battlefield Bad Company 2, that game uses a ton of physics and you can destroy pretty much everything in the game but it uses an api that everyone can use and it's actually useful in the game and enhances it.

Yea man cause nVidia is the only company with a Direct X 11 card out, oh wait...........

this is ridiculous, did NV just paid them off?! and I can see what will happen is that this game will run much better in an ATI card when released now that would be funny!

This makes you wonder whether the childish antics of Nvidia, AMD and game devs are what that are killing the PC gaming market...

I wonder how much tessellation will be in this game?

I am also wondering how much "tessellated" objects/persons/environments will jump out in the Z- axis if the 3D glasses are used?

This might be the reason the game designers list Fermi for optimized gameplay?

They have a separate category for the 3d Vision requirements. Optimal settings for a game =/= GPU specific features.
