I have a GeForce 7800GT. I am not sure if I have the correct drivers or not, so I went and downloaded and installed them. I didn't uninstall the drivers that I had, is this a problem?

For some people, not installing the display drivers before installing the new ones can cause problems. NVidia even recommends doing it this way. Personally, I have never had any trouble installing new display drivers over the old ones.

My point of view: never had any problems installing new drivers over old ones, hence ergo visa vi you don't have a problem here. End of thread.

I generally uninstall the drivers, reboot into safe mode, run Driver Cleaner, reboot, and then install the new drivers. This way you know for sure you don't have any conflicts.

I assume you mean you swapped cards recently? Windows will not load a driver when the device ID doesn't match what was there prior, so no, it won't be a problem. You can clean up the remnants of the old drivers with Driver Cleaner.

If you're just updating, it doesn't matter, the new drivers overwrite the old ones. I'm thinking the reason they recommend uninstalling old ones first is if you had really old ones that used a different driver name or different registry entries.

Manufacturers recommend an uninstall but for practical purposes it probably doesn't matter.

I consider booting into safe mode to remove drivers a bit of overkill.

I just go into Device Manager and uninstall it from their. I also run driver cleaner pro afterthat, but not in safemode.

And when you install the new drivers, be sure to check out the Xtream G drivers.
These drivers (84.25) are the latest ones as I write this. The tweaked drivers improve IQ, and some performance.

from what i understand you cant remove everything if you are not in safe mode. thats why it says on the drivercleaner directions to use it in safe mode.
