I understand that the new 50 Dets are just going to sacrafice iq for the sake of more fps. I don't like this idea very much; about 1 month ago, i got the 5900 ultra, and i'm pretty bummed about what is going to become of this card in the future w/ Directx 9 games. I spent very good money on this hardware! It's not about to become obsolete. I want to play HL 2 with all its glory, without the loss of good performance.

The question is: Will Nvidia prob write better drivers after the new ones come out, or will they just rely on the upcoming cards to fix the problem? If it is the latter, i'll be furious; i'll have to play the game @ 1027 x 768, and maybe 2x AA. THis is not good.

From the numbers, you might have to play at 800x600 to see the DX9 version of the graphics at a decent framerate.

How much faster nV can make their drivers without degrading image quality badly is anyone's guess -- the det50's were an obvious hack to get the numbers up regardless of quality, but it might still be possible to get more speed with decent image quality.

Given more time, they might come up with more tricks like their fake trilinear filtering in UT2K3 where there is a jump in speed with only a tiny quality drop compared to real trilinear. They know people just aren't buying the det50 quality drop as real optimizing.

Another thing:

There are so many people that have purchased Alienwares for 3k, in those systems including the 5900 ultra.... So I guess they're screwed?
They bought that machine to play Half-Life 2, and other Directx 9 games as their thought was the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra is the best dang graphics board out there. I guess not???

This isn't making any sense.
