I think Kyle was one of the few, if not the only major product reviewer, to publicly denounce nVidia for releasing special drivers, designed to specifically inflate NV30's 3DMark 2003 scores, even after nVidia discredited 3DMark 2003 as a valid benchmark. (Of course, that's the same bench people have been using to claim that NV35 demolishes R350.)

I hope Anand tests for such special drivers before writing his final review of NV35.

He's a pretty good hardware reviewer, but a not-so-good forum admin ;)

Is Nvidia aiming to take the preformance crown so its mainstream will sell better or what? I'm not biased towards either but that entry price level of 499$ makes me wonder if any of you will actually plunk down that much on something like that. I still have a older issue of Computer Games Strategy Plus and the Geforce2 Ultra cost that much at its time. Now I bet some of you who bought that realized you shouldn't have wasted so much money.

But good god, the cost!

There's supposed to be three versions of the FX 5900.

Here's a short article from News.com regarding the GeforceFX 5900 Ultra.

Nvidia readies high-end chip

It looks like the reviews will come out tomorrow morning (or possibly midnight). Taken from article:

Graphics chip leader Nvidia hopes to bolster its reputation with hardcore PC gamers by way of a new high-end chip that it plans to announce Monday.

Ummmmm,

NIC card (My Abit IC7 doesn't have an onboard NIC)
Modem (still used on occasion for dialing into terminals and faxes)
TV Tuner
Sound Card (Audigy 2, Santa Cruz, M-Audio, etc)
Bracket for additional USB/Firewire ports

There go my 5 slots right there

tv card
scsi card
intel network card-i don't like the cheepo onboard
sound card - i like a little more quality then onboard
modem - emergency connection

now if i were to get a raid or usb 2.0 or firewire card i'd be screwed.

not really the raid card would replace the SCSI, and if you want usb2.0 or firewire just get a new mobo, then youll gain a slot from getting the integrated intel gigabit lan :p

not really the raid card would replace the SCSI
Puhlease, IDE RAID != SCSI

And if you want Firewire, you still have to take up a PCI slot bracket b/c the majority of boards add Firewire by using motherboard headers and a back-panel bracket.

The more outrageous the cooling system, the larger, heavier, louder and/or more expensive it is. :disgust:
In order to get insane clockspeeds one must use insane cooling.
This resulted in a two-slot, heavy, high-power, loud and expensive NV30.

I really, sincerely hope nVidia corrected these oversights with the NV35... I'm so glad to hear it will NOT be a two-slot config. While 2-slot is fine for many, it's NOT fine for many others - A LOT of others! And you don't have to be a silent-system nut to hate the noise some of those fans can put out.

My idea of the perfect card is the Radeon 9600. Why? Because it's plenty fast but requires no extra power, runs with PASSIVE cooling which means it's cheaper to buy and will not die due to fan failure! If nVidia comes up with a sub-$200 card that can outdo the 9600 with passive cooling, I'll be all over it!
But somehow, I don't think we'll see that one for another six months.

nice sounding card.
glad they decided to finally give the card a 256-bit memory interface.

But what about the Pixel Shader of the card? Will this card really be completely Direct X 9 compatible? Or will it still just support Pixel Shader 1.4 (from what i remember, don't quote me on this) instead of Pixel Shader 2.0?

And please people stop ranting on who's the best. Competition between the 2 will drive prices down and force technology to get better which is always good for the consumer. So each taking turns at the top is pretty darn good for all of us hradware junkies! I for one will just buy whichever plays doom 3 the fastest with everything turned all the way up :)

As for PCI slots. Well, I pretty much use up most of my slots

1.) Adaptec Ultra320 SCSI controller card
2.) Promise Ultra133 EIDE controller card
3 & 4.) (2)3com ethernet card (mobo doesn't come with a built it one, rather just shell out for a NIC card than a new mobo, least until caterwood becomes cheaper :) )
5.) Audigy 2 Platinum (the built in sound card just didn't quite cut it for me)

why would you run IDE raid and SCSI? If i had a SCSI controller id run it exclusively. And yeah the firewire comment was short sighted, my comp has front panel sound, mic, USB2.0, and firewire headers.

Edit: spelling

$500 to play Quake III at a super fast speed?:)

Atleast this will bring down the prices of all the current crop of cards. I wonder if thugz will be one of the first to hop on the NV35 bandwagon.:D

IDE-RAID = storage

I'm soo looking forward to the official AT review of the FX 5900 Ultra. I can't wait to see how it stacks up to the 9800 Pro. I wonder what the pricing will be on the entire line of NV35 cards? I'll probably have to go with the lowest model to be able to afford one (then I'll just o/c it to get what I need out of it).

No, it won't have full DX9 support, but none of the current boards do either. It will have PS 2.0+/VS2.0+ support as the FX5800, FX5600, FX5200 and R9800Pro already do. DX9 was built with quite a bit more headroom then the prior versions of DX, there are a lot of features that we won't see in hardware for some time(not until R400/NV40 at least).

Doesnt matter how good it is, I refuse to pay more than £150 for a graphics card. Period :)

(nVidia / ATI you taking note??? ;))
