NVIDIA has released their latest NV35 reference card samples to the card manufacturers already and apparently the mass production of the NV35 cards will start rolling in June so there will be no delay this time. From the sources we have heard, NVIDIA is confident of NV35 this time and a new set of Detonator FX driver will be used to enhance performance. NV35 will be made by both TSMC and IBM but NVIDIA has not decided how many GPUs each foundry will make. The memory clock initially at 425Mhz was improved to 450Mhz on the latest NV35 card samples. From the picture below, it seems like NV35 card is still occupying 2 slots like the NV30 but the retail cards should only occupy a single slot.

GeForce FX 5900 Ultra
256MB DDR-I 2.2ns
256-bit memory interface
450/450Mhz core/memory clock
DVI, VIVO and VGA outputs
Launch in Mid May
Card Availability in June
~ $499

Awesome...

That price is most likely to drop by launch i would think... Hopefully this evens up the field again..

Any word on video playback of this chip? The R9700/9800 series has incredible playback especially if your player can use the pixel shaders!

Everyone makes such a big deal out of the dual vs. single slot configuration. Does it really matter these days? Many people have a total of ZERO PCI cards in use. Most folks I know have ONE; a TV tuner card.

I'm looking forward to the Anandtech Test of this new card. :)

If anyone in the know is feeling benevolent tonight, you can PM me the gory details before you post it to the world. ;)

most people prob. use a soundcard, network card/or modem that require pci

but yeah one slot isnt a big deal, most mobos come with 4 or more

I predict this will turn into another Nvidia Vs. ATI thread.

Anyways, I hope the sub-$300 version of the NV35 will not disappoint.

Ummmmm,

NIC card (My Abit IC7 doesn't have an onboard NIC)
Modem (still used on occasion for dialing into terminals and faxes)
TV Tuner
Sound Card (Audigy 2, Santa Cruz, M-Audio, etc)
Bracket for additional USB/Firewire ports

There go my 5 slots right there

I really do hope that this card will only use 1 slot. The two slot trend is one that I would not like to see propogated any further in the industry. Good news :D

You need a shorter name. Your name knocks the thread alignment out. LOL.

tv card
scsi card
intel network card-i don't like the cheepo onboard
sound card - i like a little more quality then onboard
modem - emergency connection

now if i were to get a raid or usb 2.0 or firewire card i'd be screwed.

Hahah... they moved back to DDR 1... shows how overrated DDR-II was.

Edit: Many folks dont like the usually crappy onboard NIC (RealTek) and sound (Realtek) bundled with most cheap boards.

Yes. People who use their machines for more than reading forums tend to have more fully loaded systems.

Don't know what to tell you guys that still use so many PCI cards. Modern mobos have onboard NIC, sound, Firewire, USB,etc.

I use one PCI "slot" for my firewire bracket, but it's not technically "in a PCI slot." *shrug* whatever.

Lame attempt at an insult. Some people that do more than one thing with their systems have more than one system for doing it. Up yours.

(1) Onboard sound is sh!t compared to an Audigy/Santa Cruz unless you're using an nForce/nForce2
(2) The GeForce FX 5800 Ultra takes up two back-panel brackets. So you couldn't put ANYTHING else back there in the second slot...including a Firewire or USB bracket
(3) Most modern motherboards DO have onboard USB and Firewire...but with Firewire you usually have to use a bracket (which goes in a PCI slot bracket) to take advantage of it. And if you have additional USB devices, the USB ports on the I/O shield usually aren't enough, so you have to use an ADDITIONAL bracket for USB. For me, I have the following USB devices:

USB Keyboard
USB Mouse
Saitek X45
USB 2.0 reader
Scanner
Printer
USB sync for my iPAQ 1910 PocketPC
APC backup (must be on its own USB port and not a hub)
USB Hub built into monitor
USB Hub built into keyboard

I need all of the PCI slots/brackets that I can get.

i have to agree. percentage wise, with most of the integration now adays, most people have less than 2 pci cards. i would bet that percentage wise people like us who use zero pci slots are about equal to those who use them all.

schad< crusing along with integrated dolby digital 5.1 and 3com eithernet.

Dang..you sure have a lot of wires back there!! :Q :p ;)

I'll be honest; I've never used one of those Audigy cards...I hear that the Audigy II is great...but I'm SO paranoid about Creative drivers that it's not funny. I went from an XGamer 5.1 card, whose drivers were the bane of my existence, to the onboard NForce2 sound on my 8RDA+ and it's been heaven, even with Klipsch PM 4.1 speakers. No stuttering, no lockups and no BSODs. :)

You make a valid point about the FW bracket taking up a slot...it does. My bad.

Hehe, when I had my MSI board, it had a bracket for additional USB/D-LED's, plus another for firewire. So there go two slots right there :(

I had an MSI board with a brack for some USB 1.1 ports and these stupid lights for POST errors.
Then there was another bracket for USB 2.0 which was provided by a NEC chip.
Then there was a brack for firewire.

My case has an extra expansion above the AGP for back plates. I suspect alot of cases do also. And personally, I hope for 2 slots. It assures me that the card is being cooled properly.
